So, you’re telling me that while walking around the city you saw another player who looked like a super decorated carnival float, and you wondered: how can I look like that too? You've come to the right place! In this article, we'll cover everything you need to know about how the game's Glamour system works, also known as skins or transmog in other titles.
Unlocking Glamours

To begin, you need to be level 15 and travel to Western Thanalan. There's no need to rush, as the main story quests will naturally lead you there.
Upon arriving in Western Thanalan, look for the mission If I Had a Glamour. This is a simple mission: just deliver some orange juice to the NPC named Swyrgeim. This juice can be purchased from local merchants.

Restrictions and exceptions
Although patch 7.4 removed most restrictions, some remain, such as gender limitations. Certain clothing items are exclusive to male or female characters, for example:

Another restriction is that weapons can only override the appearance of weapons of the same category. Therefore, it’s not possible to see a Warrior wielding a greatsword, for example.
There is, however, an exception: Summoner and Scholar can share appearances with each other. Furthermore, White Mage and Black Mage can use the appearance of Paladin shields, but to do so they’d need to wield a one-handed staff, which isn’t currently recommended.
Applying Glamours
Direct Application
This is the simplest way. First, have the item you want to use as a skin (in your inventory or armor locker), the item whose appearance you want to copy, and at least one Glamour Prism.
Right-click on the item whose appearance you want to change and select "Cast Glamour". The following screen will be displayed:

After selecting your item, click "Cast". A Glamour Prism will be consumed, and the item's appearance will be modified. The altered item will be bound to your account and can no longer be sold to other players, while the item used as the source of the appearance remains tradable.
Creating Glamour
In this method, you’ll need the item you wish to transform into glamour and 1 Glamour Prism. Ensure the item has 100% durability and isn’t equipped.
Go to a Glamour Dresser. There’s one available in all rentable hotel rooms in the game.
How can I access these rooms?

There are other locations with Glamour Dressers, but these are the most accessible.
Upon entering, interact with the Glamour Dresser to open two windows.

Select what you want to save and confirm. If the item doesn’t appear in the left window, check if the correct tab is selected. By default, the "Inventory" tab is displayed, but it’s usually empty.
Confirm the operation: 1 Glamour Prism will be consumed and the item will be stored. From then on, this item can be applied as glamour for free and without usage restrictions. The only drawback is that it’s necessary to be in the Glamour Dresser to apply it, but there’s a way to use it outside of there through the Glamour Plates system, which we’ll explain below.
Glamour Plates
Open the Glamour Dresser windows again.

The new window will display the available slots for Glamour Plates. These function as profiles or skin presets, and there are 20 slots in total.

In this menu, assemble your desired combination and click "Save". If you want to apply immediately, also click "Apply". Since we’re using pieces from Glamour Dresser, these transformations don’t consume additional resources.
Applying Glamour Plates
With a Plate set up, while in a safe zone (such as villages or cities), open the character menu in Character > Character and then click on "Gear Set List".

After linking, whenever you switch to that set, the Glamour Plate will be applied automatically, provided it’s in a safe zone. If you prefer an unlinked application, use the button next to Gear Set List to access the Glamour Plates menu and apply manually.
Acquiring Glamour Prisms
Through the Grand Company
- For beginners and players in Free Trial, the recommendation is to purchase Glamour Prisms directly from your Grand Company.
Question: What is the Grand Company?

After completing the main mission at level 20, the game requires you to choose a Grand Company. Regardless of your choice, there will be a merchant at headquarters selling Glamour Prisms.

Initially, the merchant won’t offer the item; you need to increase your rank to unlock the second level of the shop. To progress, speak to the "Personnel Officer" and select "Apply for Promotion". Spend faction currency until you reach the required rank.
Accumulating faction currency
Initially, a good way to obtain the currency is through the Hunting Log. Access it via the Logs > Hunting Logs menu.

- The Leveling roulette wheel also contributes significantly to this accumulation. For more details, please consult our leveling guide. As you level up, the "Personnel Officer" will start accepting unused armor in exchange for faction currency, making it easier to purchase Glamour Prisms.
Through Crafting
If you have any crafting class (except Culinarian), you can complete the quest Absolutely Glamourous, available in the same location and with the same NPC that unlocked the Glamour system. Completing this quest will unlock the recipe for crafting Glamour Prisms using Clear Prisms, which can be purchased from various NPCs for only 200 gil.

The Glamour Prism recipe is located in the Master Recipes tab of the Crafting Log. To learn more about the crafting system, check out our complete guide.
Removing Glamours
In the same menu where you apply glamour, simply click "Remove". To do this, you need a Glamour Displayer, with methods for obtaining practically identical to those for Glamour Prism.
Conclusion
We hope we've cleared up any doubts you had about the Glamour system and that you now have the basic knowledge to stand out in cutscenes. There are other ways to obtain Prisms, and a multitude of Glamours to explore. We recommend the website Eorzea Collection, a showcase where players share their creations.
Although the system may seem confusing at first, it becomes intuitive with practice. If you still have any questions, leave a comment!
