So, you started noticing different currencies in your wallet and were afraid to spend them because you thought one of them might be Bitcoin? You've come to the right place! In this article, we'll cover everything you need to know to understand how these currencies work.

Common Currencies

Gil

If you've played other titles in the series, this is an old acquaintance. It's the game's main currency, used in the main transactions during gameplay – from paying a boat fare to buying a mount from another player.

- It's worth noting that Free Trial accounts can only accumulate up to 300,000 gil.

Tips for farming gil

There are countless ways to farm gil in the game, and each player will likely have a different answer regarding the most efficient method. With that in mind, we've compiled some universal tips for gil sources that don't rely so heavily on player-to-player auctions:

- Always try to play with one of the missing jobs when participating in the daily roulette. If you don't know what roulette is, check out our Level Up Guidelink outside website.

- Retainers with gathering jobs, especially Miner and Botanist, can collect crystals used in crafting. These crystals are always in demand; having at least one retainer collecting and selling them can generate profit over time.

- Throughout the main quest, one of the most common rewards are "Allagan Pieces", which have a golden bag icon. These items function as vouchers that can be worth between 25 and 10,000 gil! If the other quest rewards aren’t of interest to you, always opt for these.

Company Seals

Looking at the image, you'll notice that there are three types of Company Seals, each corresponding to one of the Grand Companies. However, since you can only participate in one faction at a time, you can only earn and spend the currency of your active faction.

- To learn how to farm it, we have a complete guide here on the site! Check it out!link outside website

Ventures

This is the currency used to pay their retainers when they’re sent on missions.

What’s a retainer?

If you want to hire a retainer, complete the mission The Scions of the Seventh Dawnlink outside website (Main Story Quest, Level 17) and go to an NPC called Retainer Locale. As a rule, these NPCs are always located near the market board in cities.

Here, simply hire and edit your retainer, and communicate with them via Summoning Bell. You’ll be entitled to up to two retainers.
Here, simply hire and edit your retainer, and communicate with them via Summoning Bell. You’ll be entitled to up to two retainers.

To send them on missions, you need to complete the mission An Ill-conceived Venturelink outside website. There’s one for each starting area of the game, but completing just one unlocks the feature.

- For retainers to complete missions, they need to be assigned a job. However, they can only have levels in jobs that you also possess. For example, if you want a Botanist to collect rare materials, the retainer will only level up to your Botanist level.

- Among the options, all combat classes have the same missions. The difference lies between the three collectors. My recommendation is to have a Miner and a Botanist, but this depends on your needs.

Manderville Gold Saucer - MGP

This is the famous casino currency used in the game. With it, you can participate in the minigames available on site and purchase the full range of cosmetics offered by the Gold Saucer.

Luckily for you, we also have a complete guide on how to farm this currency here! Check it out!link outside website

Allagan Tomestones of Poetics

Widely referred to simply as "Poetics" by players, this currency – which resembles a red cell phone case – exists exclusively to facilitate the acquisition of equipment as you level up.

- For example, whenever you finish the base campaign of an expansion, a vendor appears next to the main teleporter in the respective DLC city.

When you interact with them, the following window will open:

In the "Category" option, choose the desired Role for the equipment. Then, in "Subcategory", select the option furthest down, which has the Poetics icon.

This shop sells items that were considered endgame equipment back in the day. Therefore, it's always advisable to equip yourself with what you find here.

Got it, but I see I can only have up to 2,000 of them. What should I spend the money on if I've already bought my complete set?

Farming Poetics

To earn Poetics, simply participate in any dungeon, normal raid, trial, or alliance raid with a job of level 50 or higher. It's recommended to spin the roulette wheels and take advantage of the daily Poetics bonuses they offer.

It's worth mentioning that whenever you join an activity and it's a player's first time in that location, all participants receive an extra 100 Poetics. Therefore, it's always good to unlock new dungeons and raids.

Endgame Currencies

The two currencies below Poetics change whenever new Normal Raids are implemented or a new expansion is released. At the time of writing, the currencies are called Mathematics and Mnemonics (the latter with a weekly limit).

- Both can be spent in the second social hub unlocked by progressing through the main story – which, for spoiler reasons, won’t have its name revealed.

- The currency listed as discontinued previously occupied the place of Mnemonics. Later, it was demoted to where Mathematics is now and, finally, discontinued. If you still possess a discontinued currency, it’s possible to exchange it for current currency in Mor Dhona.

Just talk to Auriana and ask for the Exchange.

PVP

Yes, there’s PVP in this game, although it's well hidden on the map and inaccessible to Free Trials. To access the PVP hub for the first time, also known as Wolf's Den, travel to Lower La Noscea and go to the pier.

At this pier, speak to the Ferry Skipper, who will take you to the location. Upon arrival, don't forget to activate the Aetheryte.

Once there, you'll find several NPCs with a wide range of cosmetics.

One important detail: everything sold here is purely cosmetic and has no combat status. Therefore, go for what appeals to you most.

Wolf Marks

This is the standard PVP currency, obtained simply by participating in matches in any mode – there's no secret to it.

Trophy Crystal

This currency is somewhat more limited and is acquired by leveling up in the PVP pseudo-battle pass.

What? This game has a battle pass too?

Hunt Currencies

These are simpler to explain, as they’re divided according to the areas where the hunts take place. Before discussing the areas, however, it's important to understand the basics of how a hunt works:

When you accept a hunt, you can click on the flyer to see the approximate location of the target. After being accepted, the flyer will go to your inventory, in the mission items tab.

Now, let's move on to the divisions:

Allied Seal – ARR

It can be obtained in Hunts in A Realm Reborn areas and also in the Blue Mage arena. (Blue Mage guide is already on my list of upcoming articles!)

Centurio Seal – Heavensward and Stormblood

It can be obtained through Hunts in the Heavensward and Stormblood areas, as well as Hunt Trains organized by players.

Hunt train? What’s that?

It's worth noting that this is also the most efficient farming method.

Sacks of Nuts – Shadowbringers onwards

It can be obtained through Hunts in the Shadowbringers, Endwalker, and Dawntrail areas, as well as Hunt Trains organized by players.

FATE

The currency's name is Bicolor Gemstone. It’s primarily used to access exclusive markets unlocked by the Shared Fates mechanic, applied to all open-world areas starting with Shadowbringers.

The gemstone shop icon on the map – it's the bag with the gemstone symbol next to it.

Think of the Shared Fates system as an area of influence. As you complete Fates on a given map, you gain more influence and new markets are unlocked. 66 Fates are needed in the same area to unlock all the options in that location.

- You can check your progress by going to the Menu Travel > Shared Fates:

As you can see, the areas are already completed.
As you can see, the areas are already completed.

In Dawntrail, there was a small change: a subdivision was created that goes up to rank 4, but 66 Fates are still required per area. If you complete all areas of the same expansion, two merchants will appear – one in each social hub of that expansion – offering new exclusive cosmetic items.

Others

Crafters' Scrips

Just like in combat classes, Scrips function similarly to Poetics and endgame currency. Purple Scrips are equivalent to Poetics, while White Scrips are equivalent to endgame currency. To acquire Purple Scrips, you need to craft Collectables – an advanced form of crafting. If you’re unfamiliar with the system, I recommend consulting our Crafting Guidelink outside website.

Purple Scrips are obtained by crafting Collectables with a level 100 crafter or through Custom Deliveries – a relatively simple weekly crafting event that offers a lot of this currency. They’re only available from level 60 onwards. To unlock the various options, check this wikilink outside website topic.

Just like combat jobs, this NPC offers equipment and materials in exchange for Scrips. Simply access the Craft category. This is the NPC that appears in the starting cities after completing the base campaign of ARR.

Finally, the discontinued currency follows the same pattern as endgame currencies: simply exchange it with the NPC in Mor Dhona.

Gatherers' Scrips

As you might imagine, they function the same way as Crafters' Scripts, with no significant differences. I recommend consulting our Gathering Guidelink outside website for more detailed information.

- The only real difference is an additional acquisition method: Ocean Fishing. This is a "pseudo-raid" fishing game in which a group of up to 24 players must complete optional objectives, such as "catch 30 large fish".

- These raids occur every odd hour of the day. To access them, go to the westernmost pier in the Lower Decks of Limsa Lominsa, near the Wizards' Guild.

Skybuilders' Scrips

This is perhaps the most unique currency on this menu. It’s acquired by delivering packages in the Ishgardian Restoration area, and these deliveries function similarly to the Collectables system for Crafters.

I understand it uses a collectables system, but what’s Ishgardian Restoration?

To access this location, you must’ve completed the post-Heavensward campaign. Then, go to this location to begin the unlock mission:

Source: Lodestone

After freeing up the area, access it through Aetheryte in Foundation, selecting "Travel to the Firmament". Note that you can only access this area while on your home server; otherwise, you’ll receive a message stating that the instance is full.

- Now, let's get practical! In your crafting log (accessible via Menu Logs > Crafting Log), you’ll see the following:

Note that below "Recipe Level," there are three tabs. Click until you reach the middle tab.

Within this tab, access the "Side quests" option and then "Restoration". This is where you’ll find the options that can be crafted and delivered to the area's NPC.

NPC that receives the items. In this menu, it’s also possible to see the value of each delivery in Skybuilders' Scrips.

It's worth mentioning that with each delivery, you fill out the "scratch card" next to the image, which acts as a kind of loot box and can contain anything from cosmetics to materials.

Societies

Although there are only two tabs for these currencies, they’re the simplest to explain. In the game, there are societies that offer daily quests in exchange for experience, gil, and, depending on the quest, the specific currency of that society.

- In the base game, there are five of these societies. Each expansion adds three. The quests are specific to each role: for example, the Ixal society (ARR) only offers quests for Gatherers and Crafters, while the Kobolds (also from ARR) have quests exclusive to combat classes. Keep this in mind when farming them.

- Another important point: there’s a daily quest limit – twelve per day, resetting at noon.

Conclusion

This was just a sample of the various currencies available in the game, to give you an idea of how to obtain them. Now that you know, stay tuned for upcoming guides. See you next week!
