Capcom celebrated an important milestone for the next Resident Evil remake: Resident Evil Veronica has already surpassed 2 million wishlist additions. The total includes entries made by players on Steam, PSN, Xbox Live, and the Nintendo Store.

The celebration on social media came with an image of one of the remake's new characters and a curious promise: 2 million cookies for everyone who added the game to their wishlist. Scheduled for 2027, the project reinforces Capcom's focus on an adventure that had a different trajectory within the franchise.

Wishlists are not a guarantee of sales, as many players may add a title without intending to buy it at launch. At the same time, some of the audience may purchase a game without ever adding it to a list. Even so, this type of registration is relevant to publishers because it indicates interest and increases title visibility, especially on stores like Steam.

Resident Evil Code: Veronica originally arrived on the Dreamcast in 2000 as a console exclusive. The following year, the PlayStation 2 received the Code: Veronica X port. Despite being part of the series' canon and achieving sales success on SEGA's console, the game is often viewed as a more atypical and peripheral entry in Resident Evil's history.

With the remake, Capcom signals its intention to position Resident Evil Veronica as an essential release for fans. Development includes members of the team that worked on the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4 remakes.

Adaptations are also planned to align the story with the modernized version of the main series. As such, the Redfield siblings' adventure should gain a level of importance closer to the franchise's numbered chapters.
