Final previews of Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave are now live, pointing to a much broader strategy RPG than its recent predecessors. Nintendo has ramped up promotion for the game in recent weeks with a Direct presentation, announcements and trailers.

Early impressions suggest that Fortune's Weave expands on the structure seen in Fire Emblem: Three Houses. The campaign features a world map, narrative routes presented in a new context and a customizable avatar, a feature returning for the first time since Fire Emblem Fates.

The city of Dagsion serves as a three-dimensional hub. Players will be able to visit shops, take on side quests, meet optional characters to recruit and use activities that help prepare for battles. The tournament driving the story also brings together characters with their own reasons for competing.

Dungeons are also making a return, with a battle system separate from grid-based tactical combat. Inspired by the approach used in Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia, they feature turn-based encounters more reminiscent of classic RPGs such as Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest.

Another new feature is the Blaze Arts, legendary cursed artifacts that enable character-specific strategies. Cai can unleash explosive fire, Dietrich can teleport through barriers and Leda can bolster allies with a song. Using these abilities consumes part of the character's health, but fills a gauge that can provide a considerable boost to their attributes.

The risk comes when the gauge is completely filled: the character suffers a “burst” and has their maximum health reduced for the rest of the battle. Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave also aims for a more eye-catching presentation, building on elements seen in Fire Emblem Engage on the Switch 2.
