April 11th kicked off the newest season of Marvel Rivals and, just like the first major update, this second season of the Hero Shooter also brings with it a robust balancing patch for the characters.

With this, some heroes left the meta and others entered. We, at UmGamer, have been playing Marvel Rivals, and we’ve worked on this article to contribute more to the debate about which characters are currently the best. Check it out!

Best Vanguards for Season 2

Magneto

Although Magneto suffered a small nerf to his Ultimate, which now requires 300 more energy to be used, he doesn’t deserve to lose his place at the top. The character received, months ago in the mid-season update, a damage increase of more than 10% in his basic attack, the most present source of damage in his skill kit, obviously allowing Magneto to establish himself in the meta as an above-average Vanguard.

His latest balance adjustment being slightly negative didn't have much of an impact on his win rates. Magneto is still a strong and viable option, especially for new players, due to his simple gameplay.

Groot

Groot has also been proving himself to be one of the most consistent options in the position. Ever since he received a buff to Thornlash Wall, one of the hero's most characteristic abilities, he’s been gaining space. Not having received any kind of nerf in the second season is what makes him show up here.

In addition to this Vanguard's Ultimate going together perfectly with several duelists, such as Moon Knight or Wanda, Groot also stars in a Team-Up Ability with a Strategist who’s also in the meta, which we’ll mention shortly.

Emma Frost

It's relatively common in many competitive titles for a new hero to arrive already dominating the meta, and it was no different in Marvel Rivals - Emma Frost is one of the best Vanguards in the cast! With her diamond form, the new Marvel Rivals character offers us a wide range of abilities, some more on the defensive side and others capable of causing a lot of damage.

She brings good ways to fight against dive compositions, such as her kick and her Ultimate, which makes her essential depending on the confrontation at hand. Her biggest disadvantage, compared to the heroes mentioned above, is that she requires a little more skill from the player, but it's nothing scary - Emma Frost isn’t difficult to control, players will just need more matches to better understand her gameplay and get more agile with combos.

Best Duelists for Season 2

Psylocke

There are many Duelists with attractive powers at the beginning of the season, but I chose to start with Psylocke for the simple reason that she shares a Team-Up Ability with Emma Frost. Basically, Psylocke will receive, when the spell is activated, an illusory copy with its own movement and attacks to confuse enemies. In a scenario as fast and chaotic as a Hero Shooter, you can be sure that this bonus’ll be efficient.

On top of the new Vanguard being strong, she’s also popular. So, you’ll benefit from this effect in most matches.

In addition, Psylocke herself is also strong in the meta, but be aware of her difficulty level, which is extremely high. I don’t recommend the ninja to all players.

Hela

Between buffs and nerfs, Hela has always found herself in a good position in the meta. The latest updates have taken away some of her mobility and escape ability by increasing the cooldown of her Raven, but her Ultimate can also be used as an invulnerability resource, since we become more resistant than a tank when activating it.

A good Hela will be able to avoid her new difficulties and still take advantage of the character's complete kit, with stuns and a lot of damage.

Human Torch

Considered by many the best Duelist of the Season, the Human Torch can easily play the important role of area control, with his tornadoes and flame walls, while also having good movement, above-average resistance for his class and dealing high damage.

Playing with an Invisible Woman, another popular hero, allows you to receive bonus HP, making up for some damage you may have taken. Doing this while you’re flying will be excellent for escaping threats.

Best Strategists for Season 2

Rocket Raccoon

Rocket Raccoon received several adjustments that made him even more effective as a Strategist. The Raccoon has always been known for his high mobility and damage output, but he’s lost some of that recently in favor of increasing his healing capabilities.

I still see him as a flexible option with a great chance of eliminating opponents, and the increase in healing and shields were essential for the community to start considering Rocket Raccoon one of the best current supports. He’s a great choice for new players, given his low difficulty.

Luna Snow

Luna Snow is one of the few uncontested characters in the meta. The Strategist has always been one of the most picked heroes in the competitive scene, with a high healing potential, and has never suffered a major nerf to the point of nullifying this.

Basically, she’s one of the best, and easiest, sources of healing in all of Marvel Rivals. There’s no reason not to recommend her.

Loki

Finally, Loki appears to close off the list. His presence is perhaps the most debated out of all the nine characters mentioned here, since the Invisible Woman is also above average at the moment.

Despite this, good Loki players can not only improve the character's gameplay with his clones, but also make the most out of his flexible Ultimate. Being able to transform into any hero in the game - be it an ally or an enemy - and use their abilities, including the Ultimate, is not something to be ignored. I recommend him only to the most experienced players.

Conclusion

The Marvel Rivals meta is in a great moment right now. Fun and with a good variety, I'm sure we could spend a long time debating a couple of spots on this list.

I hope you enjoyed this article, I'm available if you have any questions or suggestions.
