Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth is a role-playing game developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and published by Sega. It was released on January 26, 2024, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, and Windows. The game continues the stories of Ichiban Kasuga and Kazuma Kiryu, bringing together protagonists from two generations of the series.
The story begins in Yokohama, where Ichiban is working to help former yakuza find legitimate employment. His efforts are disrupted by a video that falsely identifies him as a criminal, costing him his job and drawing him into a search for his biological mother, Akane. That search takes him to Hawaii, the series’ first main setting outside Japan. There, Ichiban encounters local gangs and the powerful organization known as Barracuda. Kiryu, meanwhile, arrives in Hawaii on a mission connected to Akane and joins Ichiban’s efforts.
The two men have contrasting roles in the narrative. Ichiban approaches trouble with conspicuous optimism and a belief in friendship; Kiryu is older, physically diminished, and confronting the consequences of his past. Their partnership also gives the game room to connect the events of Yakuza: Like a Dragon with Kiryu’s longer history in the series. Kiryu’s side of the story includes a personal reckoning with memories and relationships from earlier games.
Combat builds on the turn-based system introduced in Yakuza: Like a Dragon. Characters move within a limited area during battles, so positioning can affect attacks and opportunities to knock enemies into one another. Ichiban’s companions take on different jobs, including familiar roles such as Hero and Idol, while new options draw on the Hawaiian setting. Kiryu has a distinctive fighting style that lets him switch between action-oriented combat modes, reflecting his history as a brawler within a party-based battle system.
Hawaii is more than a backdrop. The fictional district of Honolulu is a large environment to explore, with shops, restaurants, side stories, and activities. The game also brings back familiar diversions, including karaoke, and introduces Dondoko Island, a substantial island-management activity in which Ichiban gathers materials, builds facilities, and attracts visitors. Another major activity, Sujimon, turns encounters with unusual opponents into a collection and training system.
Infinite Wealth’s blend of character drama, crime-story twists, turn-based battles, and elaborate side activities reflects the series’ established mix of serious storytelling and comic detours. Its central contrast is between Ichiban’s forward-looking search for family and Kiryu’s attempt to make sense of a life shaped by obligations, violence, and old ties.
