Terranigma, the action RPG released for the Super Nintendo in 1995, is getting a PC re-release. The project is being developed by Clear River Games Development in partnership with Limited Run, but it does not have an exact release date yet: the game is expected to arrive in early 2027.

The announcement was accompanied by a trailer showcasing Terranigma’s visual direction and real-time combat.

Created by Quintet, Terranigma is set on a hollow planet divided between the surface civilization known as Lightside and the inner world known as Darkside. Players control Ark, a mischievous boy from Darkside who opens a forbidden door and sets the adventure in motion.

The RPG combines character designs by manga artist Kamui Fujiwara with Mode 7 effects and colorful environments for battles and villages. During combat, Ark moves freely around the battlefield and attacks enemies with his spear instead of relying on turn-based battles.

Terranigma’s page on GOG describes Quintet’s games from the 1990s as works defined by melancholy and recurring themes of creation and destruction. The company also calls the RPG the studio’s crowning achievement, highlighting its combination of technical elements and storytelling.

Clear River Games Development is part of Clear River Games AB, a Swedish publisher founded in 2019 and owned by THQ Nordic/Embracer. The company has previously been associated with re-releases, ports and preservation projects for classic games, including Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story and System Shock 2: 25th Anniversary Remaster.

The new version of Terranigma is scheduled to arrive on PC via GOG and Steam in early 2027. The announcement does not provide a price or a specific release date.
