Phantom Blade Zero has reached an 88 average on Metacritic after more than 30 reviews were published. The score places S-Game’s action game among the 20 highest-rated games of 2026 so far, ahead of its digital release.

The reception is also notable compared with other action games developed in Asia. Black Myth: Wukong and Stellar Blade have average scores of 81 on Metacritic; Lies of P sits at 80, while Wuchang: Fallen Feathers has a 74. Phantom Blade Zero’s score surpasses all of them, although each game has its own approach.

In the reviews published so far, the combat and visual presentation have been among the most praised elements. The Chinese-inspired setting was already one of the project’s standout features, along with its visually striking battles.

Phantom Blade Zero may resemble a Soulslike at times, but critics have not classified it that way. Instead, they say the game is forging its own identity within the action genre. That distinction is useful for anyone who followed the previews and is trying to understand what to expect from the experience.

The score marks a positive start for S-Game, but it still reflects the response from specialist critics, not the audience. With more than 30 reviews counted, the average may change as additional reviews are added to Metacritic.

Phantom Blade Zero launches digitally on October 29 for PlayStation 5 and PC.
