Bringing Bloodborne back may depend on an agreement among several companies. Former PlayStation boss Shawn Layden pointed to the rights surrounding the game as a major obstacle to a new project during an interview on The Trophy Room podcast.Layden said reviving a beloved game would require care in its own right. The team behind it would have to respect the original while facing expectations to recreate the impact Bloodborne had at launch. In the case of the FromSoftware game, there would also be rights to negotiate.“There are a lot of rights involved,” Layden said, citing Sony, FromSoftware and the studio’s parent company. In his view, getting everyone to agree on the same proposal is probably the biggest challenge. His remarks do not confirm that a sequel or remaster is in development, or set a date for the game’s return.Layden also spoke fondly of working with FromSoftware on Bloodborne and the original Demon's Souls. More than a decade later, Bloodborne remains available only as a PS4 release, playable on PS5 through backward compatibility. The difficulties Layden described add to speculation about the game’s future. Shuhei Yoshida, another former PlayStation executive, has suggested that Bloodborne director Hidetaka Miyazaki would like to oversee a remake himself but lacks the time and would rather not have someone else take it on. That is Yoshida’s interpretation, not a confirmation from Miyazaki.Outside gaming, a Bloodborne animated project is in production, with YouTuber JackSepticEye attached as a co-producer. As for the games, however, neither Bloodborne 2 nor a remaster has been announced.Via Eurogamer.
