Yesterday (26th) marked another update in Overwatch 2! As usual, even-numbered Seasons bring a new hero to the playable roster, and Season 18 was no exception - Wuyang arrives from China to join the Support role!

We at UmGamer have already played Wuyang and we’ve created this guide to help you understand more about his abilities and gameplay. Check it out!
Wuyang's Abilities
Xuanwu Staff
In his main attack, Wuyang throws a ball of water that slowly falls to the ground. The main mechanic is that you can hold down the attack button to control the projectile's positioning, giving it a big increase in damage and speed - and causing an explosion when it hits a surface or an enemy.
A tip: prioritize attacking enemies from a longer distance, since from less than ten meters, you won't be able to take advantage of the ability's explosion and increased damage. See how it works in the video below.
By controlling your shot, you'll be able to hit enemies behind walls if you have a good idea of their positioning.
I strongly recommend keeping this minimum distance of ten meters to maximize your strengthened attack. Avoid simply spamming projectiles without the damage boost.
Take full advantage of your attack's long range to poke a wide range of opponents. Check out the range of this Wuyang ability.
Restorative Stream
Just like Kiriko, one mouse button fires the main shot and the other a healing ability. In Wuyang's case, this is a resource similar to Zenyatta's Orb.
You'll select an allied target to receive a stream, which will grant a small, constant health recovery passively - meaning you can attack or use other abilities while your teammate’s still being healed. The only downside is that if you go behind a wall, the Restorative Stream will detach from the target after three seconds.
This feature’s also improved if you hold down the button. In this case, Wuyang will manually heal a significantly larger amount, but it’ll consume an energy bar, so it's limited.
Guardian Wave
Guardian Wave is one of the hero's main tools. Wuyang launches a wave that heals - and increases health recovery potential - of allies and pushes back enemies hit. It's an excellent ability for when your team’s under pressure, allowing you to push back opponents while offering greater protection to your teammates.
Rushing Torrent
This is one of the new support's simplest mechanics; you basically gain increased movement speed and jump height for a few seconds. Great for escapes!
Tidal Blast
This is his Ultimate. Wuyang strengthens either an ally or himself with a large shield. On top of the extra health, a large explosion happens around the target when the shield is depleted - knocking down and damaging nearby opponents.
Notice in the video below that healing is also granted at the end of the Ultimate. This increases his healing potential on a single target even further.
Minor Perks
Wuyang's two minor perks are effective: Overflow grants you ten rounds of ammo and a third of your healing energy when you activate Rushing Torrent. Balance increases the passive healing of Restorative Stream by 40% for two seconds after you land a shot.
I believe that Balance will almost always be the first choice. Your most consistent heal is the stream, and having it increased by 40% is absurd. Just remember to use your attacks frequently to keep the buff.
Major Perks
Some of the community argues that there’s a significant disparity between the major perks.
Falling Rain will have you throw three water orbs with your main attack - instead of just one - however, they’ll deal 60% less damage and the explosions will have a 25% shorter range. It doesn't make much sense to launch more projectiles for increased damage, and I see it as inferior to the next perk.
With Ebb and Flow, the wave launched by Guardian Wave also returns. It deals less damage on the way back but still pushes enemies back and increases the healing potential for allies - it's excellent.
You'll most likely choose Ebb and Flow in most matches, especially if Blizzard doesn't change Falling Rain.
Playstyle - Which compositions does Wuyang fit into?
Wuyang will shine in Poke compositions - powerful long-range attacks combined with disengage abilities such as Guardian Wave and Rushing Torrent add to this. You'll make a bigger difference in matches by staying safe while precisely healing an ally.
It’s not recommended, but it's possible to fit the new support into Brawl strategies that prioritize close-range battles. Future metas will likely show this to be a problem, since you won't be able to take full advantage of his main attack. But since teams tend to be very close to each other, your Ultimate and Guardian Wave can help as AoE abilities.
Dive compositions, on the other hand, are likely to be the ones Wuyang will show up in less. Even with the speed boost granted by Rushing Torrent, the support will struggle when trying to keep up with more agile heroes like D.Va and Tracer, becoming a vulnerable solo target in the backline.
Obviously, this is preliminary reading; we haven't seen yet how the character performs in high-level competitive matches.

Wuyang is bad against
Dive is this support's main threat; characters like Lúcio, Doomfist, and Wrecking Ball constantly threaten him. Heroes designed for Dive builds have countless ways to get to you, so don't rely too much on Guardian Wave’s knockback or Rushing Torrent’s speed - you'll still be vulnerable!

Wuyang works well with
Ana isn’t just another hero for the Poke composition - the best suited for Wuyang - but also has better ways to deal with his "natural predators," such as Sleep Dart.

Pharah and Sigma should also score several victories alongside Wuyang. Any character of this style, with long-range damage and crowd control to prevent pushes, will likely be great partners for the Chinese.
Conclusion
Wuyang is extremely fun! He won't be the easiest hero to master, but I'm sure he'll bring you hours of gameplay. Blizzard has been consistently getting the new heroes right, and Season 18 was no exception.
I hope you enjoyed this article! I'm available in the comments if you have any questions or suggestions.
