A Strange Scaffold, the studio behind I Am Your Beast and El Paso, Elsewhere, has announced Gods With Badges, a narrative tactical game about the power police wield over life and death. It is scheduled for release on Steam for PC in 2027.

The announcement was made during the Triple-I Initiative showcase on October 8. The protagonist is Harrow McClellan, a disgraced police officer who returns to her original post after the scandal that drove her out becomes a legend within the department.

Every dialogue choice and turn-based encounter forces Harrow to make a decision: reinforce the reputation that follows her or try to overcome it. She patrols the open spaces of Scarhelm, a futuristic dystopian city where she seizes contraband, investigates complaints and searches for evidence in back alleys.

The decisions made during conversations, arrests and uses of force affect Harrow's relationships with fellow officers, the public and the city's institutions.

When a situation spirals out of control, Gods With Badges shifts to isometric, turn-based combat. Harrow can take cover, rescue hostages and choose how much force to use. The game also allows players to temporarily disable the officer's body camera, opening up tactical and dialogue options while removing the public record of what happens next.

Gods With Badges began as Hard Justice, an unreleased project from strategy studio Artificer. A Strange Scaffold used its foundations and development materials to reinterpret the game in its own style.

The project is part of Project Share, an initiative created by A Strange Scaffold to encourage technology sharing among developers and explore more sustainable ways to make games. The soundtrack will be composed by Kris Kirk, who also worked on Space Warlord Baby Trading Simulator. Despite the announcement, A Strange Scaffold has only confirmed a 2027 release window for PC.
