The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026. Nintendo will also release a themed console and accessories inspired by the game on October 29, ahead of the remake’s debut. The project revisits the adventure released for Nintendo 64 in 1998 with a new presentation, changes to Link’s controls and a place in the franchise’s 40th-anniversary celebrations.

Nintendo aims to bring this journey to a new generation of players. The Hero of Time’s story features voiced scenes and expanded dialogue, while exploration benefits from a modernized camera. There are also new features for players who tend to forget their next objective after spending a few days away from the game.

When will Ocarina of Time be released, and which platforms will support it?

The game will launch on November 5, 2026, exclusively for Nintendo Switch 2. The date is listed on the Brazilian game pagelink outside website.

This edition requires the new console. The Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite and Switch OLED aren't among the platforms announced for the remake. Players already familiar with Ocarina through an earlier release will find a new production here based on that adventure.

Nintendo is also preparing a Zelda-themed Nintendo Switch 2 console and a Pro Controller inspired by the game. Both accessories will arrive on October 29. There'll also be a version of the controller bundled with a stand, sold directly by Nintendo.

In the United States and the United Kingdom, the themed console was announced at US$ 519.99 and £ 434.99, respectively. The physical edition of the game costs US$ 69.99 or £ 58.99, while the digital version costs US$ 59.99 or £ 49.99. These prices don't represent confirmed prices for Brazil.

Pre-ordering the game from Nintendo’s store includes 3D replicas of the three Spiritual Stones found by Link. The set comes in a black display box, while a version bundled with a small ocarina pin costs an additional £ 2.99 in the United Kingdom.

Is Ocarina of Time on Switch 2 a remake?

Nintendo describes the project as a reconstruction of the classic for Switch 2. Along with remade graphics, the adaptation changes the controls and expands the story’s presentation. Ocarina of Time 3D, released for Nintendo 3DS in 2011, is an earlier, separate edition.

The starting point remains the adventure that introduced Zelda in three dimensions on Nintendo 64. The goal is to preserve that identity while adding interactive features closer to those found in more recent adventures.

The remake was revealed during a Nintendo Direct presentation held in September 2026. The new version accompanies the launch of the themed console and accessories, which will arrive before the game.

What's the story of Ocarina of Time?

Link begins his journey in Kokiri Forest, where the call of the Great Deku Tree draws him into a threat that extends beyond his home. Accompanied by the fairy Navi, the boy sets out to explore Hyrule and becomes entangled in events that will determine the kingdom’s future.

His meeting with Princess Zelda sets him against Ganondorf. The villain seeks the Triforce, a sacred relic of immense power. Stopping his plans takes Link across different regions and brings him closer to the people who live in Hyrule.

The protagonist’s transition from childhood to adulthood gives the adventure its most recognizable feature. The same locations take on new meaning as time passes, and players notice changes in places they've learned to recognize. This relationship between the two eras also shapes the game’s progression.

The story introduces its characters as part of the campaign itself. Players who've never played Zelda can follow the conflict without studying the series’ timeline or finishing the previous games.

How do exploration and combat work?

Ocarina combines third-person exploration with dungeons that require players to observe their surroundings and use equipment. In the original’s structure, finding an important item expanded Link’s abilities and often allowed him to reach a previously inaccessible passage.

This learning process began in the Great Deku Tree. The slingshot helped hit distant targets, while the platforms encouraged players to examine the environment at different heights. Later, the dungeons required players to understand the connections between rooms and discover how certain actions changed the paths available to them.

Combat used a fixed targeting system to keep the player focused on enemies. Watching an enemy’s movements helped players recognize when to defend or attack, while equipment also served specific purposes during battles. This combination of combat and investigation forms the foundation of the adventure that the remake brings back.

The ocarina, meanwhile, played a central role in the adventure’s progression, with songs tied to different moments in Link’s journey.

Nintendo also announced child Link and child Zelda amiibo for 2027, but hasn't yet revealed their exact release date.
