The #SaveMassEffect campaign surpassed 200,000 verified signatures during its first weekend. The petition was launched after EA announced the closure of BioWare and the cancellation of Mass Effect 5. Fans are now trying to show the company that there is still interest in the series’ future.

Two familiar voices from the original trilogy have joined the campaign: Jennifer Hale and Mark Meer, the voice actors for the female and male versions of Commander Shepard. In a video, Hale imagined one possible way to bring Mass Effect back, with fans organizing a Kickstarter, investors joining the effort and a game company taking part in the initiative. She presented the scenario as something she would like to see happen, not as an announced project.

Meer also posted a video using the hashtag #SaveMassEffect. While commenting on Hale’s idea, he encouraged viewers to sign the petition. Before that, the two had already expressed their dismay over the news about BioWare during an Instagram livestream. Meer highlighted the impact of the closure on Edmonton, Canada, where the studio was based, as well as on the industry.

Support has spread beyond the Mass Effect community. Destiny players have promoted the campaign, along with people from other gaming communities. Owlcat Games used the official account for its upcoming title, The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, to ask followers to consider signing the petition.

The Change.org campaign aims to demonstrate the series’ importance to EA and call for its continuation. There is still no indication that the campaign could change the company’s decision regarding BioWare or Mass Effect 5.
