Game Science has released a 15-minute gameplay trailer for Black Myth: Zhong Kui, the sequel to Black Myth: Wukong. The video offers a closer look at the new protagonist, the game’s world and a combat system built around blocks, dodges and elemental effects.

The demo opens on a peaceful beach, where the protagonist arrives by chance. After making his way through a cave, he encounters an old man eating a piece of meat. The two build a raft in an attempt to set out across the sea, but a gigantic wave brings their plan to an abrupt end.

Combat begins shortly afterward. Carrying the old man on his back, the hero takes on a group of enemies with sword strikes. The fight ends with a larger creature, which sets its own weapon ablaze. The protagonist blocks the attack, counters with a decisive strike and finishes the encounter with a cinematic takedown.

The old man appears to die, but transforms into a tangle of flying leaves that begins guiding the protagonist. During the pursuit, he faces dogs, an archer and other monsters. In one scene, the hero throws an incendiary bomb, spreading fire across the ground, enemies and trees before absorbing the flames into his sword.

The battles shown in the trailer feature more realistic swordplay, with precise blocking and dodging animations. The protagonist is also shown sheathing his weapon and using different forms of protection against incoming attacks, with reactions that change depending on the angle of the strike.

The pursuit leads the hero to a lake, where he finds a woman’s body. Creatures drive him away from the area, and when he reaches the shore, he comes face to face with a winged humanoid. During the battle, the enemy tears off its own wings before entering a second phase. A mysterious ally helps the protagonist during the fight, while the hero switches between fire and electric attacks.

In the end, the two defeat the boss. As the creature tries to reach the water, the woman from the lake rises with a demonic smile, attacks the enemy and drags it beneath the surface.
