Xbox and Kojima Productions announced on Wednesday (9) that they are expanding their partnership to publish PHYSINT, Hideo Kojima’s next action-espionage game. In addition to the previously announced OD, the agreement between the two companies includes collaboration on film and television projects.

The announcement came alongside a disclosure from Kojima himself, who said in a post on X that PlayStation Studios had notified him in mid-June this year that the project would be canceled. According to him, PHYSINT is important both personally and to the studio, and Kojima Productions spent the past three months looking for a new partner. It was during that process, he said, that the team found in Xbox a company with a shared vision for the future.

Xbox CEO Asha Sharma commented on Kojima’s decision to bring the project to the platform, saying the creator’s ambition to challenge conventions reflects the kind of creativity the company wants to support. Kojima, meanwhile, said development on the title is still underway and that the partnership expands the relationship between the two companies.

PlayStation Studios also addressed its departure from the project. In a statement, the company said it made the decision after careful consideration and that it continues to have great admiration for Kojima’s vision for the game. Sony also emphasized that its relationship with the studio remains strong after three decades of cooperation and that it hopes to continue collaborating with the creator and his team in the future.

PHYSINT does not yet have an announced release date.
