Spider-Man 2 saw another surge in sales following the theatrical release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day. According to Alinea Analytics estimates shared by Rhys Elliott, the game has sold approximately 316,000 copies since July 30, generating more than $11 million on PS5 and Steam in less than two weeks.

Player activity also increased. Around 274,000 people tried Spider-Man 2 for the first time through PlayStation Plus. Last weekend, the game surpassed 1 million daily active users for the first time since its launch week. That figure is roughly 2.6 times higher than the level recorded before the film hit theaters.

The data suggests the film's popularity played a significant role in the game's performance, alongside promotions on the platforms.

On PS5, Spider-Man 2 was priced as low as $29.39 during a promotion in February. During that period, the game sold around 6,300 copies per day. Around the release of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the same sale price raised that pace to approximately 15,000 daily copies. That marks a 2.4-fold increase, with the peak reaching 4.5 times the performance of February's promotion.

Steam followed the same trend. Priced at $40.19, Spider-Man 2 recorded sales roughly 2.3 times higher than during a June promotion at the same price. According to the estimates, around 20% of PS5 copies sold during the period associated with the film were physical editions.

With the latest boost, Spider-Man 2 has surpassed 18.2 million copies sold since its release nearly three years ago. More than 92% of that total is on PS5, while combined box office returns from the PS5 and Steam versions are believed to have exceeded $1.2 billion.

Alinea Analytics described the result as an example of the transmedia halo effect, in which the success of one production increases interest in another work from the same franchise. The film premiered on July 30, 2026, nearly three years after the game, and long development cycles and delays make it difficult to coordinate major-budget releases.
