Arc Raiders saw a surge in players on Steam following the release of Frozen Trail. At the time of writing, 166,670 people were playing simultaneously on PC, the game’s highest count in seven months. The spike coincided with the update and a free weekend that ran from October 8 to 12.The surge follows months of lower player counts. After reaching an all-time peak of nearly 500,000 concurrent players on Steam, Arc Raiders struggled to exceed 35,000 from July onward. In September, its player count on the platform fell as low as 10,000. It is too early to tell whether the new peak will last.Released on October 8 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, Frozen Trail introduces Pendola Pass, a snow-covered mountain region beyond the familiar Rust Belt. The area offers more room to explore, fight enemies and gather resources. It is the first substantial update since Riven Tides, which launched in April.Combat has new threats, including Bully, Skulker and Hydra. New equipment includes the Tether Launcher, which can attach enemies to objects, and a grappling hook that has become a talking point among players. The free weekend gave people who had not tried Arc Raiders a chance to experience the changes.Player reactions have focused particularly on the size of Pendola Pass and Frigate, a new Arc ship. One player said that after an hour of play, they had explored less than 15% of the map. For Embark, the response is an immediate sign of interest in Frozen Trail; for now, though, the figures show a spike in players, not a long-term trend.
