The announcement of Final Fantasy VII Revelation at Summer Game Fest 2026 left more questions than answers. The trailer and gameplay session revealed enough to confirm that the third chapter of the trilogy won’t be a 100% faithful adaptation of the original game, but little about how and where the changes will occur.
Some of the answers may lie in released media. From the weapons shown in the trailer to the mechanics of the Fits, there are details that, combined with the lore of Final Fantasy VII and what the Remake has already established in the two previous titles, point in specific directions.
Some are more substantiated than others, but below we’ve gathered the main theories and possibilities, with an analysis of what supports them and what still needs confirmation.
Sapphire Weapon survives?
One of the trailers shown at Summer Game Fest gave a preview of the Sapphire Weapon's attack on Junon.
In the original game, Sapphire Weapon attacks Junon during Tifa and Barret's execution, opening a breach in the prison through which Tifa escapes and is destroyed by the cannon before launching a second attack. The trailer, however, brought a surprise: she dodges the shot.
It could just be a reworking of the scene to make more sense of how her attack ends up freeing Tifa, but many fans speculate that Sapphire Weapon survives in Final Fantasy VII Revelation to be one of the game's bosses, giving players an opportunity they never had in the original game.
Emerald Weapon Rework?

Almost all the Weapons appeared in the announcement trailer, except for the Emerald Weapon, the super-boss that inhabits the ocean floor in the original game. The omission could have a few distinct reasons: revealing it now would give away something the marketing team could highlight in another trailer, its segment isn't yet complete, or its design is being reworked.

The Emerald Weapon appears as an Easter egg in Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII and, in the remastered version, retains the same design. A complete redesign seems unlikely. The most probable scenario is that its segment is still under development.
Ultima Weapon appeared in FFVII Rebirth

As revealed by the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Ultimania, the Weapons that the group encounters in Corel and Gongaga are still in larval stages and may grow and develop in the future.

In the trailer for Revelation, the Weapon that attacks Mideel has many similarities to those in Rebirth. It's possible that it's the same creature and that its attack is a plot twist from the original title.
Some fans, however, suggest another possibility: the Weapon that saved Tifa in Gongaga is the Ultimate Weapon.

The theory is based on the color similarities between the two creatures, the fact that the smaller Weapon is quadrupedal in the trailer, and its appearance in the attack on Mideel, where the Ultimate Weapon is first confronted in the original game. These events in Revelation would culminate in the final evolutionary stage of the creature seen in Rebirth, or in a fusion of the two Weapons that appear in the previous game.
The moment when Tifa is devoured by the Weapon in Gongaga and taken to a place similar to the one she and Cloud visit after falling into the Lifestream may’ve been a foreshadowing of this connection. This narrative device would also help explain how the Ultimate Weapon forms as Cloud's sword, instead of simply being a reward for defeating a powerful beast.
Icicle is Linear

Naoki Hamaguchi has repeatedly stated in more than one interview that the team gains access to the Highwind after five or six hours. If the title follows the same chronology as the original game, there are two entire segments before we reach the airship: The Cliff of Gaia and Junon.
It's undeniable that Junon will be a linear, narrative-driven segment, but there's an entire region in Icicle that would be equivalent to any other open-world map in Rebirth, with inhabitants, an inn, and perhaps the famous snowboarding minigame. The player will likely gain access to this region early on, but it maintains a linear progression, similar to Final Fantasy VII Remake, with the world only opening up after obtaining the Highwind.

Another possibility is that the Icicle region has been remade. In FFVII Rebirth, the Temple of the Ancients was moved from near Midgar to the Northern Continent, and right after it is the Forgotten Capital, where the game ends. Bone Village doesn't exist, and the Sleeping Forest has become a linear segment. The structure that the Remake world seems to be building is that the region where an inn once existed is no longer habitable, at least not on the way to Gaia's Cliff.
Possible Jobs/Fits

Fits (Function-Integrated Tactical Suits) are a new mechanic in Revelation, reminiscent of the Job systems from previous titles. They allow each character to perform distinct functions depending on the build chosen by the player, allowing, for example, a Tifa focused on casting magic.
Currently, only two Fits have been revealed: Warrior for Cloud and Black Mage for Tifa, but two more outfits appear in the trailers for Cait Sith and Barret.

The horn on Cait Sith's outfit is a trademark of the Summoner job in the Final Fantasy franchise. Barret, on the other hand, has a suit full of armor, typical of a tank, like a Knight or Guardian.
Hamaguchi also stated in an interview that Cloud will have a Fit similar to the Black Mage, but mixed with combat. Dark Knight is the most obvious choice, but Spellblade, from Final Fantasy V, fits the description: the class carries magic in a sword to generate additional effects and attack weaknesses.
Fits were created by Professor Gast
The Fits appear early in the game and have no equivalent in previous titles. When a new element is introduced, the Remake often uses Chadley as a convenient lever. This may be the case with the new class system, but there’s a more interesting alternative.
The highlight of the Icicle region is the house and laboratory where Professor Gast and Ifalna, Aerith's mother, lived. Various details about the Cetra, the Planet, Jenova, and the Weapons were recorded in sessions with Ifalna for Gast's research, and crucial moments in Aerith's story are also revealed there.
Gast has a deep knowledge of the Cetra, and his research points to the true identity of Jenova. The professor also worked for Shinra and possibly recognized the risks of the Jenova cell research that gave rise to Sephiroth, making him the most qualified to create potential safeguards should the experiment go wrong.
This doesn't mean Chadley will be left out of the development or improvement of the Fits. His role will be expanded in Revelation, and he’ll be available at any time in the Highwind. Connecting the system to Professor Gast and the Cetra, however, would provide a much more consistent narrative integration.
