Introduction
With June coming to a close, and doing so in great style with BIG Festival and gamescom latam, we walk into July, with its release, new games and DLCs. Despite being a transitory month, with no major games coming out, there’s still a lot of room for new teams to impress gamers who are open to new experiences, especially in the indie scenario. Here, we’ll cover some of the releases coming in July 2024, that go from already renowned RPGs to new games in beloved styles, such as metroidvania.

Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail
Initially, Final Fantasy XIV, the MMORPG installment of the franchise wasn’t that much of a hit, due to a plethora of problems. However, the developers later decided to drastically change the game, and it became Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, which is currently one of the best MMORPGs in actuality, growing exponentially in popularity. The game’s new expansion, Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail promises to bring even more playability and content to the highly acclaimed MMO.
Among the new content present, we can highlight the new storyline in a new continent called Tural, which is divided into Xal Turak at north and Yak Tural at south, naturally bringing new areas to explore, new raids and cities. Two new jobs will also be introduced, Viper and Pictomancer, on top of the maximum level being increased. New content was also promised for the players who prefer to explore crafting and the non-combat parts of the game. Finally, there will also be a general graphic update, and female Hrothgars will also be available. The release happens on July 2nd.
The First Descendant
Added to the free-to-play catalog, The First Descendant is a looter shooter in third person with RPG elements, where players can get together in teams of 4 people to achieve missions and face bosses. With the game’s post-apocalyptic setting, we’ll be defending humanity from invading monsters, with high-quality graphics and unique classes, allowing the player to use 3 weapons + secondary accessories. It’s possible to note certain influence from the game Destiny, but here there’s a different premise, and the game has very positive reviews. Its release was scheduled for July 2nd, but the distributor got ahead of itself and the game is already available.
Zenless Zone Zero
Following Genshin Impact and Honkai: Star Rail, Hoyoverse decided to take further advantage of the street theme with its new game Zenless Zone Zero, or ZZZ, which promises to be influenced by cyberpunk culture and titles such as Persona. The new Anime RPG will be released for PC, iOS, Android and PS5.
The game is classified as an urban fantasy, set in a world called New Eridu, where players will have to defend the world from Ethereals, the game's monsters. The company promises to bring explosive and elegant combat, in addition to following their expected formula within the gacha system. It airs on July 4th.
Bo: Path of the Teal Lotus

This title in particular won me over because the art direction is breathtaking. Based on Japanese mythology and folklore, Bo: Path of The Teal Lotus is a 2.5D platform game in metroidvania style, where we will embark on a journey as Bo, a fox who will unravel the mysteries behind an ancient, mysterious ritual. In addition to evolving the combat experience, the soundtrack also promises to combine traditional Japanese instrumentation with modern orchestral music. Its launch is scheduled for July 17th.
Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition
In a return to the classics, Nintendo decided to launch Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition for their Nintendo Switch platform. This is a game based on the Nintendo world championships, where players will be able to complete multiple quests in already renowned challenges within the Super Nintendo, in a compilation of the most famous games on the console. There will be an online leaderboard for the best placed in each challenge, as well as a speedrun mode. Among the titles expected in this game, we have: Balloon Fight, Donkey Kong, Excitebike, Ice Climber, Kid Icarus, Kirby’s Adventure, Metroid, Super Mario Bros and The Legend of Zelda. The digital version will be available on the eShop, while the physical version will be a deluxe box edition, launching on July 18th.
Dungeons of Hinterberg
This new cartoon-style RPG takes place in Hinterberg, located in the Austrian Alps. The protagonist, Luisa, who formerly worked in a law internship, decides to pause her career to explore the region's dungeons and locations. Combat will mix both modern elements, like snowboarding and mountaineering equipment, and more fantasy elements like ice spells. Also, naturally with the dungeons, we will have a special focus on puzzles, while the entire plot develops around the character. It’ll launch on July 18th, but a demo is already available to test for free.
Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn
We all know that soulslike is a trending genre, and this is wonderful for those who love these games, as there are countless studios looking to innovate within the style. Flintlock: The Siege of Dawn is in this category, being a Third-Person Hack and Slash, set in the lands of Kian, where the Gods are marching with their undead armies, seeking to destroy those who oppose them. We take on the role of Nor Vanek, part of the Alliance against the gods, and accompanied by her fox Enki, who is her guide on this journey. Its launch will also take place on July 18th, and a free demo is now available on the Steam platform.
