Sega and Creative Assembly are temporarily pulling Total War: Shogun 2 - Complete Edition from sale just days after its release. In a statement posted on X, the companies acknowledged that the current experience falls short of players’ expectations and their own quality standards.

The companies are working with platform operators to suspend sales and restore the original version of Total War: Shogun 2 while they investigate the issues. Anyone who has already bought the Complete Edition will still be able to access and play it.

The decision follows a negative reception on Steam. Just days after release, only 15% of the game’s more than 4,000 reviews were positive, giving it an “Overwhelmingly Negative” rating. The Complete Edition’s store page now says the product is no longer available for purchase.

The statement does not specify what the problems are. Some players have criticized what they consider poor image enhancements and suspect that artificial intelligence was used in the Complete Edition. Sega and Creative Assembly, however, did not mention AI in their statement. The fans’ suspicions do not confirm how this version was made.

The companies said they are working with their development partner to identify the causes of the problems and make improvements. Their stated goal is to bring the Complete Edition up to the standard of quality Total War players expect.

Total War: Shogun 2 - Complete Edition was released on October 13. Sega and Creative Assembly have not said when it will go back on sale.
