God of War Laufey will no longer launch in February 2027. Sony Santa Monica has delayed the PS5 exclusive until May 20, 2027, three months later than previously planned. The studio gave no reason for the delay but said it would use the extra time to put the finishing touches on the game.

In a social media post, the team thanked fans for their interest in Faye's journey since Laufey was revealed in June. Sony Santa Monica said it would use the additional months to bring the game up to its full potential and share more updates soon.

The delay moves God of War Laufey out of a busy February release window that also includes the Fable reboot, Persona 4 Revival and Metro 2039. Despite the crowded schedule, the studio did not cite competition as a reason for the delay.

Laufey marks a change for the series: it is the first God of War game without Kratos as its protagonist. Faye takes the lead in an adventure through the Everywhen, a version of the afterlife that brings together gods and deities from different mythologies. The game also brings back the faster-paced combat of the franchise's early entries.

Kratos appears at points during Faye's journey, but this time the focus is on her. According to Sony Santa Monica, a future game starring Kratos will be connected to the events of Laufey. For now, Faye's PS5 adventure is set for May 20, 2027.
