Toby Fox has shared a new update on the development of Deltarune now that Chapter 5 is available. As expected, the project's next step is Chapter 6, which is planned for release sometime in 2027.

The developer believes he will be able to make the chapter available next year. He also confirmed that Chapter 6 will be released separately, in case there were any doubts about the possibility of the chapters arriving together.

The new part of the adventure will be described as a shorter, more straightforward chapter, focused on a specific aspect of the story. Because of this choice, several elements will still not be addressed — and some absences may surprise players. In return, one question will be clarified, whether the audience is ready or not.

Fox also asked for trust in the pacing of the narrative. Although some players may expect longer chapters, he says he is completely certain that, by the end of Chapter 7, it will be possible to understand why the story is being told this way.

During development, Fox finished writing some sequences located in the final third of Chapter 6 and rearranged the rooms to accommodate the new structure. After these adjustments and the integration of the parts, the team will be able to play through a draft of the entire chapter, from beginning to end.

As long as no major overhaul is needed, the main remaining work will focus on the chapter's boss and polishing the scenes. Chapter 6 is scheduled for 2027 and will be released on its own.

The update also brought new information, concept art, and comments on Chapter 5, as well as addressing fan speculation and theories. According to a previous update, development on Chapter 7 may begin before the end of this year.
