Minecraft will launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on October 27, 2026, Mojang confirmed. The new version will support Vibrant Visuals, which will be enabled as the default visual experience, bringing improvements to lighting, shadow effects and other elements of the presentation.

Selected players have also begun receiving invitations to test Minecraft on Switch 2 ahead of its official release. Reports indicate that the invitation appears when launching the current version of the game and directs users to the eShop to begin a free download. The message says the test is intended to evaluate the improved performance and help prepare for the final release.

Images from the test version have begun circulating on Reddit and social media, but Mojang has yet to share additional details about the closed beta's availability. The testing period therefore does not represent a change to the announced release date: Minecraft officially arrives on Switch 2 on October 27, 2026.

The edition for the new console will also update the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack, exclusive content included with the Nintendo platform versions of Minecraft. The update will take advantage of Vibrant Visuals to adapt the pack to the new graphical presentation.

Players who already play on Switch will be able to transfer their saved data to the Switch 2 version. Mojang also confirmed a digital upgrade path for owners of the current edition, but has not yet revealed how the process will work or whether it will involve any cost. The company said more details will be announced later.

The arrival on Switch 2 expands Minecraft's presence on Nintendo consoles, where the game has already been released for Wii U, New Nintendo 3DS and Switch. The version made specifically for the new device will launch on October 27, while details about the digital upgrade remain pending.
