The Ecos de Sekigahara expansion for Ghost of Yotei follows Atsu before her hunt for the Yotei Six. Set against the Battle of Sekigahara, the story takes place between the tragedy that struck her family and the start of her quest for revenge.Sucker Punch chose to tell this chapter from Atsu’s perspective. According to art director Joanna Wang, the aim is not to recreate every detail of the battle like a documentary, but to place Atsu’s personal story within those historical events. The team worked with historians and Japanese consultants to depict the battle. The battlefield also shaped the expansion’s visuals and gameplay. Wang said the team chose a purple sky to convey the chaos of the fighting. Atsu is surrounded by soldiers, galloping horses and arrows, some of them flaming. Players will need to dodge and seek cover as they fight. In this section, Atsu’s main weapon is a sword or katana. That differs from the range of weapons available in Ghost of Yotei’s combat system, in which she switches weapons rather than using the stances associated with Jin Sakai. According to Wang, bringing all these elements together in one sequence is a major undertaking for the team.Ecos de Sekigahara expands on a period of Atsu’s life before the central events of her revenge story. The material released so far does not give the expansion a release date.
