The Duskbloods will use a ranked matchmaking system to pair players with opponents of similar skill levels. FromSoftware aims to prevent newcomers from immediately facing the most experienced competitors in the Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive.

Hidetaka Miyazaki, FromSoftware's president and director of The Duskbloods, explained that highly skilled players will be matched with other top-level competitors. Newcomers, meanwhile, will have their own pool, a measure designed to reduce uneven matchups as the skill gap widens.

The system will not tie progression solely to match performance. Players will be able to unlock story content and character customization options simply by playing, even if they do not win or finish their matches. According to Miyazaki, these features may help players enjoy the world of The Duskbloods before pursuing greater advancement in battle.

The matchmaking system has yet to be finalized.

FromSoftware is also exploring ways to foster a positive relationship between veterans and newcomers. Possibilities include rarer match events, or events more likely to appear when a long-time player is in the group.

The Alliance system may allow players to request to be paired with someone of a high rank. Those among the best players may also be able to prioritize matches with newcomers if they want to help them, a dynamic Miyazaki compared to the signs left outside boss encounters in the studio's other games.

These features may not be available at launch. The team is still monitoring feedback on The Duskbloods' more experimental systems, such as Sigil and Virtue points, before deciding how matchmaking will evolve. The Network Test will take place in daily sessions from August 21 to 24.
