The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered has received a technical analysis of its Switch 2 version, highlighting a visually capable port held back by performance issues. Bethesda and Virtuos have preserved many of the enhancements seen on other platforms, although the console’s lower power amplifies some of the game’s shortcomings.

When connected to a TV, the game reaches 1080p; in handheld mode, the resolution is 900p with DLSS. Image quality was considered impressive and even surpasses that of the Xbox Series S in some respects. Vegetation, however, has been noticeably scaled back: entire trees disappear from the open world, while distant elements pop in and out as the player approaches.

The performance target is 30 frames per second, but the port suffers from frame-pacing issues. The camera can frequently stutter as frame times fluctuate between 16 ms and 50 ms, creating an uneven feel while moving around.

The stutters and crashes observed on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S also occur on Switch 2. The analysis notes that these problems are more noticeable on Nintendo’s console. On the other hand, the performance degradation over time reported in the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions does not appear to occur in the same way on Switch 2. The 30 fps cap may contribute to this result.

Overall stability also appears to be better than on other platforms, but the port is not free of issues. A few crashes have still been reported since launch, preventing a fully positive assessment in that regard.

Bethesda managed to fit the complete game onto a Switch 2 cartridge while maintaining a presentation close to that of more powerful consoles. The port still needs updates to address the performance issues that remain throughout the adventure.
