Nintendo has officially shut down Mario Kart Tour, its free-to-play racing game for mobile devices. When opening the app, players are greeted by a notice informing them that the service has ended, along with a message thanking them for taking part.

The company also published a final Mario Kart Tour report on social media, compiling data on the game's history. Players who had previously played can still relink the Nintendo Account used with the title to recover their save data and view their past records.

Released on 25 September 2019, Mario Kart Tour posted impressive numbers throughout its run. Estimates from market intelligence platform AppMagic indicate that the game surpassed 276 million downloads and generated approximately US$ 268.5 million in revenue for Nintendo.

The game was still generating an estimated US$ 650 thousand per month when its shutdown was announced. Players in the United States accounted for the largest share of revenue from in-app purchases, representing 39% of the total over the game's lifetime.

Nintendo confirmed in an official FAQ that there are no plans to release an offline version of Mario Kart Tour. As a result, access to the game's content is limited to the save-data recovery and record-viewing features mentioned by the company.

Some of Mario Kart Tour's tracks remain available in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe through the Booster Course Pass, but the mobile title ends its run without an offline alternative announced by Nintendo.
