Key announcements

New job: Bastion

New Main Tank: Bastion
New Main Tank: Bastion

The event's headline announcement was the reveal of Bastion, the new Main Tank joining the roster at the launch of Evercold. The class will utilize two mounted shields known as "Skyitborgs."

  • It’s worth noting that in Evercold, with the Evolved combat mode, tanks will be divided into Main Tanks and Off Tanks; Main Tanks are better suited to holding the boss's attention due to their more reactive abilities. Judging by the trailer, the class will feature a range of ranged attacks—much like the Paladin—which will make boss positioning significantly easier.

Collab with Final Fantasy VII Remake

It was also confirmed that the Evercold Normal Raids will be themed around the FFVII universe; in other words, we can expect a long story arc and a series of battles based on the Remake trilogy.

  • In addition, the Gold Saucer in XIV will receive a revamp, featuring a new look, a new mini-game, and two outfits straight from the Remake: Tifa's and Barret's standard outfits.

There was also another teaser for the Evangelion collaboration; however, it was just as brief as the first, with this new one being very similar.

Although it had been revealed well beforehand, this Fan Fest gave us the first official gameplay of the job and a release date—September 9—alongside Patch 7.56, which will bring the final part of the Dawntrail main scenario.

    Quality-of-life improvements for Evercold

Rework of the Chocobo Companion system

A system that had been neglected for years is finally getting more attention in Evercold. Currently, the Chocobo can only accompany the player during open-world combat and level up to level 20, featuring three very basic skill trees.

  • At Evercold, it was stated that the system will be reworked, food effects will be revised, and chocobos will even be able to enter dungeons, forming "Light Parties" consisting of two players and two chocobos.
  • In addition, the way Chocobo companions are created and commanded will also be changed, though few details have been revealed.

    Action Animation skins

The idea behind this option is to add variety to each player's unique traits, introducing an extra layer of customization regarding how the character utilizes certain class abilities.

    Character creation expansion

Some of the restrictions imposed in the character creator will be removed in Evercold; one of the most notable changes is the option for Au Ra players to choose their horn type without having to change their avatar's face. For reference, in the current model, horns are tied to specific faces, so it’s not possible to pair Horn 1 with Face 3, for example.

    World Raids

It was mentioned that open-world content will receive more attention in Evercold. The primary model said to be followed is that of Field Operations like Eureka and Bozja.

  • It’s worth noting that the name "World Raids" is temporary while development is underway and will likely be changed.

    Character progression updates

Depending on how far along you’re in the game, you may’ve already noticed that much of the leveling-up experience boils down to collecting "Poetics" currency and trading it for specific gear. However, in Evercold, this system is being changed to operate more passively, similar to how battle passes work in other games.

  • For example, under the new system, any activity a player engages in will yield some form of progress and grant benefits—unlike the current setup, where many feel compelled to complete daily activities to avoid missing out on bonuses. This shift toward a weekly rather than a daily system will reduce the sense of urgency some players feel to play every day just to avoid losing out on experience and the like.
  • Yoshi-P also mentioned that if a player doesn't manage to finish everything for the week in time, it’s possible to complete it the following week and only then start the next pseudo-battle pass. In theory, this sounds great for those who don't have much time to play, but we still need to see how it works in practice.

Gameplay showing how the game will run on the Switch 2 was also revealed. The game will utilize the familiar Cross Hotbar, which is used by gamepad players. The official launch took place on August 2nd, and all players on the platform will receive a free month of subscription!

Console gameplay is shown starting at the 14:30 marklink outside website

    Conclusion

Based on what has been shown, players are generally very excited about Evercold—some even calling it "Evergold". We still have to find out what the DPS job will be—confirmed for announcement at the Tokyo Fan Fest in October—not to mention other new features that couldn't be revealed yet because they’re still in the testing phase.
