Arcane

Bleed is probably one of the strongest builds in Elden Ring, considered a reliable way to platinum the game without difficulty. Perhaps the Bleed build is only surpassed in terms of ease of gameplay by the mage build.

In this article, we’ll discuss the various possible paths to building a solid Bleed-focused build in Elden Ring and its DLC, considering the best items and analyzing what the ultimate Bleed build would be among the various options the game offers to both beginner and veteran Bleed players.

It's impossible to discuss the Bleed mechanic without talking about its main attribute, Arcane. Arcane is a core attribute in the game that governs item discovery, Holy resistance, and some resistances to certain debuffs, such as Death Blight.

However, the main function of this attribute is to improve weapons with an innate Poison or Bleed effect through Arcane infusion, as well as managing the scaling of Hidden damage, which greatly improves weapons that cause bleeding. Therefore, leveling up Arcane is a priority in any build focused on bleeding.

Furthermore, Arcane is also a prerequisite for using many weapons in the game, making this attribute even more relevant in various situations.

Classes

But which class to choose? Which works best at the beginning of the game and which has the best progression? The answer depends on how you intend to work your build. There are several variations, such as the arcane mage or more classic builds like the samurai, but the most recommended for its versatility regarding weapons is the quality build, balancing Strength and Dexterity just right to unlock the main weapons with Arcane scaling.

The samurai is an excellent starting point, having good initial attributes and the bonus of already starting the game with a weapon that has Bleed.

Weapons

Now we enter a more complex area: weapon selection. Whether combining melee and ranged weapons for more versatile combat or adopting Power Stance, the weapon chosen will greatly influence your build, and to make this choice, it's necessary to know the options well and how to acquire them.

Besides the excellent Uchigatana, which can be acquired early in the game with the samurai class and has a second copy located in Deathtouched Catacombs, there are alternatives that can be collected throughout the game.

The most famous is undoubtedly the Rivers of Blood, a katana that was once considered the strongest weapon in the game and, even after being nerfed, remains very powerful due to its Arcane scaling and its special ability capable of destroying bosses like Malenia. However, this weapon can only be acquired in one of the last areas of the game, in the Church of Marika in Mountaintop of the Giants.

Reduvia is another very viable option for this type of build, easily accessible early in the game, and possesses a special ability that allows you to control combat at a distance without losing the bleed effect. To obtain this weapon, you must defeat an invading NPC called Blood Finger Nerijus.

Eleonora's Poleblade is another weapon that can be acquired from an invading NPC and possesses an innate skill associated with Bleed. This weapon is extremely elegant and has one of the best combat animations in the base game, and can be acquired through the quest from Blood Finger Hunter Yura, the same NPC you meet after defeating the invader to obtain Reduvia.

However, the weapon with the greatest potential in arcane builds, which is extremely underrated, is Moghwyn’s Sacred Spear, a trident that serves as the weapon of the boss Mohg, Lord of Blood. Defeating Mohg to obtain the weapon is the least difficult part, as to reach him you need to access the secret area Moghwyn Palace, which can only be accessed using two routes.

The first method to reach Mohg's arena is via the elevator accessed after defeating Morgott, the Omen King, in the Leyndell region, the capital, but this route requires many steps and a lot of suffering. The simpler route is to follow the quest from the NPC White Mask Varre, which, in addition to granting access to Mohg, also gives us another item that will be discussed later.

Varre is the first NPC we encounter upon starting the game, right after accessing Limgrave. A man dressed in white, with a mask that gives him a striking look. After gaining access to the Two Fingers, Varre will move to Rose Church, located in the Liurnia region, where we can begin his quest. At the end of it, Varre gives us an item that allows us to teleport to Mohg's palace.

The great advantage of this weapon is its special ability, which is the same one used by Mohg when entering his second phase in the boss fight. This ability, combined with the right buffs and amulets, can simply annihilate several other bosses in the game, and its area of effect allows it to deal with multiple enemies at once, causing massive damage in a combination of bleed and fire.

Armors

In terms of armor, there isn't much to say or think about. Most of the time, armor is purely aesthetic, but some pieces can enhance certain effects, such as the White Mask, the same one used by Varre and three other invading NPCs in the Moghwyn Palace area.

This mask grants an attack bonus to the wearer whenever bleeding occurs nearby, including bleeding suffered by the player.

Talismans

In terms of Talismans, we have two indispensable highlights in any Bleed-focused build: Lord of Blood’s Exultation and Millicent’s Prosthesis. Lord of Blood’s Exultation can be obtained by defeating Esgar, Priest of Blood in the Leyndell catacombs, a complex underground area with numerous enemies that resembles a labyrinth. This amulet grants a 20% attack power bonus whenever Bleed occurs nearby, stacking its effect with the equipped White Mask.

Millicent's talisman can be obtained by following the character's quest, which involves a long journey from the dangerous Caelid to Haligtree, where you face Malenia. This talisman grants a dexterity bonus and increases the attack power of successive blows (you need to kill Millicent after the fight against the Godskin Apostle during the quest or continue to the end and choose to fight her; otherwise, the amulet cannot be obtained).

Buffs

There are several buffs that can be used to maximize bleeding and damage effects. You can use Ash of War Seppuku to further maximize bleeding damage or rely on enchantments like Fire, Grant Me Strength or the powerful Golden Vow, all excellent options to combine in various ways with your build.

Final Thoughts

In addition to items, attributes must be leveled up correctly for the build to function at its full potential. Focus on Arcane, Dexterity, and Vigor, but don't forget the minimum points in attributes like Faith and Endurance to guarantee the enchantments you’ll use and a good amount of Stamina in combat.

Power Stance is very efficient, especially when combined with two katanas. Trying to use two Rivers of Blood in NG+ might seem tempting, but it's much more efficient to combine the Rivers skill with a powerful Ash of War like Seppuku. So Rivers + Uchigatana seems like a much more solid combination.

The Blood Mage is also a very interesting choice, mainly due to its versatility in combat control, being able to attack from a distance and switch to meelee combat.
