The servers for Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3 are temporarily offline on all platforms. FromSoftware announced the shutdown, citing a server issue, but did not explain what happened or say when service would be restored.

For online players, the outage affects the interactions that can change the course of a session: invasions by other players, summon signs and messages left along the way. The games remain playable, but their online features are unavailable while the servers are down.

FromSoftware said it would share updates when it has more information about when service will be restored. For now, players waiting to return to multiplayer in Dark Souls 2 or Dark Souls 3 have no date to circle on the calendar.

The series has faced outages before. In 2022, Bandai Namco took the servers for all three Dark Souls games offline after a security vulnerability was discovered in Dark Souls 3. The third game's servers went down again months later. FromSoftware has not linked the current issue to that vulnerability.

Server problems have also disrupted another project from the studio. The first network test for The Duskbloods, a multiplayer-focused game, ended earlier than planned because of what were described as server issues. That incident has not been linked to the shutdown announced for Dark Souls 2 and Dark Souls 3.

This week, FromSoftware also announced that it had delayed The Duskbloods, a Switch 2 exclusive, until 2027. The studio said development is in the final stages of refinement. There is still no estimate for when the two Dark Souls games' servers will return.
