Microsoft has extended the deadline to find a buyer for Arkane Lyon by another month. The studio is responsible for developing Marvel’s Blade. The company is also seeking a partner to support the team through the remaining stage of the game’s production.

Arkane Lyon’s 217 employees remain at risk of losing their jobs if no deal is reached. Microsoft said it is exploring alternatives to support the studio and will keep the Works Council updated throughout the consultation process.

The previous deadline, which according to a recent report was set to expire on November 13, has been extended. The decision comes after Microsoft announced its plans for Arkane Lyon on July 16. Around the same time, the company announced measures involving Compulsion Games, Double Fine Productions, Ninja Theory and Undead Labs. Ninja Theory was shut down, while the other studios became independent. More than 1,600 jobs were cut from Microsoft’s gaming division as part of the process.

Jason Schreier said several options are being negotiated to preserve Arkane Lyon and that he would be surprised if the studio were shut down. According to the journalist, closing a French developer is expensive because of the country’s labor laws, which require an extended period of severance payments.

The workers’ union is calling for affected employees to be reassigned to other Xbox studios if Microsoft cannot ensure Arkane Lyon’s continued operation. The union also criticized the plan to sell the studio and has not ruled out taking the company to court.

Marvel’s Blade was announced with a trailer in December 2023 but has received no further updates since then. The game was expected to be revealed early next year and released in the fourth quarter of 2027. Todd Howard of Bethesda Game Studios said in May that he had seen part of the project and praised Arkane Lyon’s work.
