Quake Champions is no longer free-to-play and now costs US$ 9,99 or £ 8,99 on Steam. The change also ends the Microsoft Store version, making Valve's platform the only way to play id Software's shooter on PC.

The paid version includes content from all 30 seasons released over the years. All Champions, the game's playable characters, are unlocked, along with most cosmetic items. Anyone who has played Quake Champions on Steam will receive the updated version at no charge.

Update 1.31 accompanies the switch, removing battle passes, the in-game store, paid currency, loot boxes, login rewards and all other microtransactions. The interface has also been reorganized: sections tied to the former free-to-play model are gone, while character customization has a more prominent place in the main menu.

The change marks the end of ongoing development. id Software confirmed that it has no plans for new content updates at this time.

Players of the Microsoft Store version, called Xbox on PC, will need to check their account links before moving to Steam. According to Bethesda, players who accessed the game before September 23 and had already linked their Bethesda and Steam accounts will receive a Steam copy within 48 hours. Those who have not linked their accounts must create a Steam account if needed, sign in to their Bethesda account and link the two by October 7. Their copy should then arrive within 48 hours. Platinum purchases made in the 60 days before September 23 will be refunded.

Quake Champions entered paid early access in 2017, went free-to-play in 2018 and was fully released in 2022. The game was never released on consoles.
