Project Helix, Microsoft’s plan for the next generation of Xbox, is expected to involve a family of devices rather than just a console. Division CEO Asha Sharma outlined that direction in a memo to employees.“We’re moving to a family of devices for Gen-10,” Sharma reportedly said. According to the memo, the company plans to start with a main console, while also recognizing that many players use their devices away from home. Sharma also said Microsoft plans to make some products itself and seek partners for others. The statement points to a broader hardware lineup for the next generation, but doesn’t specify which devices it will include. Sharma said the company would share more information as its plans progress. She also said the operating system is evolving and that the team is excited about its work. There are recent precedents for this strategy. The current generation launched with two consoles: Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S, the latter being cheaper and less powerful. Last year, Microsoft also partnered with Asus to launch the ROG Xbox Ally X, a handheld gaming PC.These products help put the idea of a family of devices into context, but don’t confirm which form factors Microsoft is preparing for Gen-10. Sharma’s statement mentions a console as the first product in the lineup and leaves room for partnerships, without announcing any specific models. The company also has a partnership with AMD related to the next-generation main console. So far, no details have been announced about Project Helix’s hardware, price or release date.
