Vendetta had an early testing period during the end of November. We at UmGamer played with the DPS during this time to create this guide to help you understand more about her abilities and gameplay. Check it out!

Vendetta’s Skills

Palatine Fangs

Vendetta's main attack is a sequence of devastating melee strikes. The key mechanic is the rhythm: she delivers two quick horizontal slashes, dealing 50 damage each, followed by a third "critical" vertical strike dealing 130 damage.

It's worth mentioning that the third strike, in addition to dealing massive damage, has the ability to knock down airborne enemies. This makes Vendetta a surprising counter against flying heroes like Pharah, Echo, and Mercy, or even a D.Va using boosters.

Warding Stance

Unlike most DPS, Vendetta possesses a robust defensive tool. By activating her Warding Stance, she uses her sword in a guard stance, reducing frontal damage received by 75%.

However, defending consumes a specific resource bar. In addition to blocking, you can use some of this energy to fire a ranged blade projectile, allowing you to deal damage from a distance even while defending or retreating.

Whirlwind Dash

This is her best resource for escapes or area-of-effect finishes. The Italian performs a quick charge accompanied by a blade spin, damaging everyone in its path. Use it preferably to escape a fight after securing an elimination or to quickly reposition yourself.

Soaring Slice

Flying Slash is what gives her the ability to initiate, as well as enhancing the heroine's incredible mobility. Vendetta throws her sword forward and flies towards it. You can use this to instantly reach high ground or to close the distance against isolated ranged enemies, like a Widowmaker or Ashe. The best combination is to start with Soaring Slice at the beginning of the fight and Whirlwind Charge to exit.

As you can see in the video, you'll have the opportunity to perform a vertical attack, the third strike of Palatine Fang, after using Soaring Slice. Take advantage of this opportunity to inflict immense damage on your opponent. Knowing this information is also important to help you visualize plays like using Soaring Slice towards a flying enemy and knocking them down with just one hit!

Sundering Blade

Her Ultimate is a brutal strike with extremely high damage and destruction, which is very representative of the character. You prepare a slash that has three charge stages; the longer you charge it, the greater the range and damage. At its maximum stage, the attack hits a gigantic area in front of you, capable of eliminating multiple targets from full health.

However, be careful. During the charge, you’re vulnerable to crowd control, such as Ana's Dart or Sigma's Stone. Try using it flanking or from above to catch the opposing team off guard.

Minor Perks

The Italian's two minor perks are great for survivability, whether providing healing or extra movement speed.

  • Siphoning Strike: With this perk, the Palatine Fang's third attack – the "critical" – grants 30% life steal. This is the ideal choice for solo players, as it offers enormous resistance, allowing you to stay alive without relying so much on supports.
  • Relentless: Here the focus is on the heroine's passive, Onslaught, which increases attack and movement speed as she lands hits. The perk allows you to stack this passive up to 8 times – up from 5 previously. However, it's harder to maintain stacks if the enemy team is playing separately.

I believe Siphoning Strike will be the top choice for its consistent survivability.

    Major Perks

Major Perks are known for drastically changing a hero's playstyle, and that rule continues here.

  • Swift Vengeance: If an enemy eliminates you, they’ll be marked. If you eliminate that target later, your cooldowns are reset, and you gain 125 extra health. It's very situational and risky, as it depends on you dying and then managing to eliminate that specific enemy.
  • Raging Storm: Modifies Whirlwind Dash, making the spin last longer and hit more times, increasing area damage. Besides dealing more damage, this helps charge your Ultimate faster.

While Swift Vengeance is quite fun, you'll only choose it in very specific counterplay situations. Raging Storm is the best option in most matches due to its consistency and area control.

Playstyle - Which team compositions does Vendetta fit into?

The best way to get the most out of this heroine is by using her in Dive compositions. Her high mobility and ability to burst down isolated targets make her a perfect partner for tanks that jump into the enemy backline.

Her playstyle will be like that of an assassin, executing quick kills and retreating afterward. Engage with Soaring Slice, eliminate a support or DPS with your combo, and use Dash or Block to escape alive. Don't try to play like a Tank, as you’ll be punished quickly.

    Vendetta is weak against…

Stuns are this DPS's biggest weakness; heroes like Ana and Roadhog can easily interrupt her combos or cancel her Ultimate. Furthermore, characters capable of controlling space – Brigitte or Torbjörn are examples – also make her very difficult to play against, as they prevent her from getting close, and her main sources of damage are melee attacks.

    Vendetta works well with…

Many heroes pair well with Vendetta. Winston and Doomfist have excellent dashes and absorb the enemy's defensive resources, making it easier to finish off targets.

Among the DPS, the best are those who support you on the flank, such as Genji and Sombra. As for supports, Kiriko and Lifeweaver are excellent at saving her from risky positions, allowing for a more aggressive playstyle.

    Conclusion

Vendetta is an excellent addition to the Overwatch 2 roster! The Italian has a lot of personality and brings a brutal melee attack style that we rarely see in the DPS role.

She's a fun character with a very solid and strong skill kit for the Dive build, but still has some weaknesses to maintain the balance that a competitive title needs. It was another great move by Blizzard!
