Matthew Ball, Xbox’s director of strategy, has denied that Microsoft reached a deal to stream GTA 6 exclusively in the cloud. According to him, the game will not be available exclusively via streaming, nor will it be streamable on PC at launch.

The possibility gained traction after a report claimed that Xbox had exclusive streaming rights to GTA 6. Speculation began after Microsoft Gaming CEO Asha Sharma told staff at an internal meeting that the company was about to do something no other platform offered. Sources familiar with the company’s plans reportedly linked her comments to the alleged deal.

Because Xbox Cloud allows games to be streamed to computers, the arrangement would have offered a way to play GTA 6 on PC before a native version arrived. Rockstar has yet to confirm whether or when the game will be released for computers, however. The expectation is that it will follow the same path as previous titles and come to the platform at a later date.

In a post, Ball said excitement surrounding GTA 6 and Xbox had led to inaccurate information. He said Microsoft expects to release the game for Xbox on 19 November, but denied that it would be streamed exclusively or made available via streaming on PC.

His comments leave unanswered the question of when GTA 6 will come to computers. With no native version confirmed and no streaming option at launch, PC players will not, based on the information currently available, have an official way to play the game on release day. The report also notes that there is no obvious technical barrier to streaming the game to computers; if the restriction is imposed, it could be related to business decisions.

Rockstar and Xbox were contacted for comment, but had not responded in the source text. The 19 November date cited by Ball refers to the Xbox release; the source does not specify the year.
