Rockstar avoided basing the satire in GTA 6 on fleeting trends so the content would still feel current when the game reaches players. Because development stretches over several years, the team chose to create its own exaggerated versions of contemporary phenomena instead of recreating real events or memes that could quickly lose relevance.

“If a trend is blowing up for six months, you need to see it for what it is rather than jump on the bandwagon,” Rupert Humphries, Rockstar’s senior vice president of narrative, explained in an interview with Love Magazine. He said the team was interested in subjects such as conspiracy theories and the strange ways people react to everyday situations.

Rather than directly copying something recognizable from the real world, the developers created “slanted and exaggerated” versions of those subjects. The approach preserves the tradition of Grand Theft Auto, a series known for using biting humor to comment on social and political issues.

Humphries also discussed the so-called American dream, a recurring theme in the franchise. In his view, GTA 4 offered a bitter take on the promise of opportunity in the United States, while GTA 5 deepened that cynicism. In GTA 6, the idea may take a more modest form: owning a home for the family and paying off debts, goals that would still be out of reach for many people.

The Miami and South Florida region was described as a pressure point between extreme wealth and limitless ambition, an environment that fuels insane situations. The executive did not reveal exactly how the game will approach the American dream, but this perspective may offer clues about Jason and Lucia’s motivations.

GTA 6 will be released on November 19, when Rockstar’s take on these themes will become clearer.
