Gears of War: E-Day has sold around 230,000 copies and generated approximately US$ 37 million in revenue since early access began, according to estimates from analytics firm Alinea Analytics. The figures were shared by the firm's analyst Rhys Elliott and have not been officially confirmed by Microsoft.

Steam accounts for around 168,000 copies sold, while the Xbox ecosystem, which includes consoles and PC, accounts for another 62,000. Despite lower sales volume, Xbox represents the larger share of estimated revenue: approximately US$ 26 million, compared with US$ 11 million on Valve's platform.

The difference is tied to Gears of War: E-Day's distribution model. Alinea Analytics estimates that 1.7 million people played the game through Game Pass without buying it separately. Of those, around 722,000 subscribers paid US$ 30 for the Premium Edition upgrade, which allowed them to play early.

According to the analysis, those upgrades generated approximately US$ 21.7 million. Including copy buyers and subscribers who paid for early access, nearly 950,000 people spent money directly related to the game.

Playtime data also shows differences between platforms. Around 54% of Xbox players logged five hours or less, compared with 32% on Steam. Among those who played for more than 15 hours, the share was 19% on Xbox and 33% on Valve's platform.

For Elliott, the ease of trying games included in subscription services helps explain this behavior. Even so, the absolute number of players who spent more than 15, 20 or 50 hours in Gears of War: E-Day is higher on Xbox because of Game Pass's reach. The estimates suggest that traditional sales account for only part of the game's commercial performance.
