Fairgames, the online heist game announced by PlayStation three years ago, may have resurfaced under a new codename. Listed as Project Espresso, the title appeared on Player.gg, a platform that allows developers to find players for testing.

The page keeps the responsible studio undisclosed but includes an extensive gameplay trailer. The footage shows an art style and premise similar to those of Fairgames, suggesting the project could be the same game. The listing also states that it is in development for PS5 and PC.

Another detail further strengthens the connection: the game requires a PlayStation account to play. That requirement is uncommon for third-party titles, but would make sense if Project Espresso is a platform-related production.

The original project was announced as an online shooter focused on heists. According to reports, development faced difficulties, including the departure of Jade Raymond, the studio's founder, and Daniel Drapeau, the creative director. The changes came after employees raised concerns about the game following internal tests with negative results.

PlayStation has said little about Fairgames since its announcement, although development has continued. Earlier this year, the company also filed a trademark for Break In, leading some players to suspect that it could be the project's new name. There is still no confirmation of any connection between Break In, Project Espresso and Fairgames.

Those interested can sign up for a playtest through Player.gg. The discovery comes at a challenging time for PlayStation's live-service projects, following the shutdown of Concord, the cancellation of The Last of Us Online and the negative reception to Marathon. Outside the platform, Highguard was also shut down in less than two months.

So far, PlayStation has not officially confirmed Project Espresso's identity, its final name or a release date.
