One of the coolest and most innovative things about Bioware games is the possibility of you having a romantic partner who will accompany you and influence the game. Of course, Dragon Age romances aren't exactly news in the gaming world, but the studio innovated with hot scenes, partial nudity, same-sex romance options and some bisexual ones.
But with so many options and so many games, it's hard to know whom to choose, so let's talk a little bit about each of the romanceable companions from the first three games and help you choose your partner.

Dragon Age Origins
The first game has, according to the fanbase, the best romantic options. There are 4 romanceable character options and some minor romances which can be done throughout the game if you look carefully.
Of these romance options, two are exclusively heterosexual and two are bisexual (of course, there are mods in the PC version to address these limitations). Also, don't try to romance more than one companion at the same time, or you'll be left with none. Let's get to them:
Alistair
Alistair is a kind and maybe a little naive guy, who you meet right at the beginning of the game. He's a Gray Warden, like you, and he really believes in Duncan and in what the Wardens stand for.
He is a warrior in the most basic sense of the word. As a romance option, he will be attentive and loving, being very in love with the Heroine of Ferelden and asking her to marry him, if you decide to crown him king.
To romance Alistair you must be playing as a female Warden, get a high approval value and help him on his personal mission, which involves investigating his past and helping his sister.
Depending on your choices during this mission, he may or may not want to become king. This mission also influences whether he’ll want to participate in the scene you can have with Isabella in the Denerim brothel.
Morrigan
The forest witch is also a romantic option in the game. She is basically the opposite of Alistair, being independent and thinking that love is something for fools, she won’t be won over with flowers or pretty words.
For Morrigan, what counts is a decisive attitude and a strong hand. She will also disapprove of things like random acts of kindness or wasting time helping everyone who crosses your path. She also doesn't like feeling trapped in a relationship, so don't try to tame her.
To romance her, you must be playing a male Warden and have high approval with her. To achieve this, you must help her in a mission that involves killing her mother. But getting rid of your mother-in-law isn't easy, so you can make a deal with her. However, if Morrigan finds out, it's the end of the line.
Leliana
The cleric bard can also be your romantic partner in the game and is one of the best. Leliana is caring and devoted, supporting you through every difficult decision in the game. She’s also good-natured and quite optimistic, supporting the group with her rogue skills and songs. At camp, she’ll tell you stories and if you are good to her, she’ll sing for you.
To romance her, you can be a male or female Warden of any race, and you must help her on a mission which involves finding and eliminating her former mentor, who betrayed her and left her behind after a scheme.
She can also participate in the scene with Isabella if you help with this mission. To get high approval with her, just show respect to Chantry and Andraste. If you desecrate Andraste's ashes, she will try to kill you, romance or no romance.

Zevran
Zevran is an elf assassin and member of an organization called the Antivan Crows, and he was hired to kill you. He arrives full of gallantry and charm, saying he’ll do it and it will happen, but when you take away half of his health, he surrenders and asks for mercy.
If you spare him, he asks to join your group. Of course, you can be suspicious and not accept it or accept it and have a companion who won’t hide his intentions of taking you to his tent. Most of his conversations will be about sex or stories of him having sex. And whatever isn't about sex, he'll find a way to include the subject in some way.
To romance Zevran, you just need to be breathing and have approval. To get high approval, you have to not kill him, to begin with. Be smart and take advantage of everything. Your personal mission involves helping him get rid of the Crows.
Dragon Age 2
A significant change happened to romance in Dragon Age 2: All romanceable companions are now bisexual. Both the male and female Hawke can date any of the available companions.
Isabella
Isabella is a beautiful pirate captain who you met in the Denerim brothel, and now she’s in Kirkwall, looking for a way to get rid of a serious problem she got into. You’ll find her in the Hanged Man tavern, where Varric lives.
Seductive, daring and provocative, Isabella is a survivor which will approve actions that involve helping the weakest, especially if they are profitable. Helping her on her mission will be crucial to the romance and will also help her not abandon you later.
If you are flirting with her and another partner, she’ll tell you to stay with the other one, as she isn’t looking for a serious relationship.
Anders
This healing wizard and member of the Gray Wardens first appeared in the Dragon Age Origins: Awakening DLC and has changed a lot since then. In Awakening, he was good-natured and easygoing, enjoying life outside the Circle. In DA2, he’s more serious and determined. Perhaps the Justice spirit that is with him explains this.
He is a fugitive from the Circle and wants to change the lives of mages, so to get high approval, just make decisions that favor the mages and are against the Templars, in addition to helping him in his plan. He likes cats too. At the end of the game, when he does something really bad, you can choose to kill him, send him away, or forgive him, but even with the romance, he won't change his mind about his plan.
Merrill
She’s a Dalish elf, that is, a forest elf, who lives with her clan and is next in line as the leader. Sweet, simple and naive, Merrill wants to recover the lost history of the elves, but to do so, she doesn't mind using obscure methods, such as studying strange ancient artifacts or using blood magic, something that is taboo among wizards.
She wishes to rebuild an Eluvian mirror, an artifact that elves used to travel long distances. Helping her is the easiest way to her heart.

Respecting the elves’ history and helping them is also essential. At the end of the game, if you choose to side with the Templars, she may turn against you. If you are in a romance, you can convince her to give up and come back to your side.
Fenris
This elf fled the kingdom of Tevinter, a place ruled by noble wizards called Magisters. In Fenris' case, he was a slave used in experiments to fuse Lirium (a type of liquid ore which conducts magic and is excavated by dwarves in the Deep Roads) into his body, which gave him special powers but caused a lot of pain.
Fenris is angry, tough and has no interest in being nice to his companions, only responding to Hawke with kindness if his approval is high.
Romancing Fenris requires you to help him in his revenge and make decisions against the mages and in favor of the Templars. Of course, this puts you in direct conflict with Anders, and if you side with the wizards, he may turn against you. If you are in a romance, you can convince him to give up and come back to your side.
DLC Romance Options
Two Dragon Age 2 DLCs add romanceable companions. They are Sebastian and Tallis.
Sebastian is a nobleman seeking revenge and can only be romanced by a female Hawke. Since his quest can be done during the adventure, you have a complete romance with him.
Tallis is an elf from the Qun and does not have a complete romance, as her mission can only be done after finishing the game, just a kiss scene at the end of the DLC story that does not affect your current romance.
Rivalry Romance
Dragon Age 2 also has the Rivalry Romance mechanic, which changes some dialogue and character personality, but the scenes are the same. To have a romance like this, you need to have maximum disapproval with a character, doing everything they don't like. It's a cool thing to do on a second or third playthrough.
Dragon Age Inquisition
In the third game, we now have another new feature: heterosexual, bisexual and, for the first time, exclusively homosexual romance options.
Another change is that, now, we can no longer see how much approval we have with our companions, which means we have to keep an eye on our decisions, as we can no longer control the gain and loss of approval.
Lastly, if you don't romance a partner, he may end up with someone else. For example, Iron Bull; if you don't get with him or Dorian, they end up together.
Iron Bull
A large Qunari mercenary, with big horns, and leader of a band of warriors sent by the Qun chiefs to aid the Inquisition. He doesn't explain the superiors' reasons for helping him, but it’s a great help and, in the situation you are in, any help is welcome.
To gain approval with Bull, simply keep him in the group, kill many Venatoris (enemy wizards) and dragons, and agree with him regarding what he says about combat and dragons. Bull can be romanced by men and women of any race.
Ad
Also avoid killing his companions in the personal quest, as he may even turn against you later. The romance scene with him is one of the funniest in the series.
Cassandra
Cassandra is a strong and determined warrior, and is also very devoted to the Maker. She was very close to Divine Justinia and is suffering from her death, just like Leliana. She really wants to believe that you are an envoy from Andraste and that you’ll solve the problems that are happening in the world.
Cassandra can only be romanced by men of any race and, despite her tough attitude, she wants a real romance, complete with flowers, poetry and love vows.
Earning approval with her means making decisions that help weaker people, being a decisive and firm leader, embracing your destiny as Andraste's chosen one and not belittling or mocking her beliefs and things she likes (like the "romance novels" she reads in secret).
Sera
This mercenary elf is part of a strange and mysterious group called Friends of Red Jenny, which, apparently, is very large and well-organized, but, at the same time, dispersed and leaderless. Besides, no one has ever seen this Red Jenny or knows if she even exists.
As she was raised by humans, Sera doesn’t like anything related to elves, disapproving when asked if she favors things like "reviving the heritage of elf culture" and so on. She also doesn't like magic, so actions to free the wizards are bad for her.
Sera is homosexual and can only be romanced by women of any race. Approval with her involves helping the weakest and not questioning her actions. She doesn't usually follow orders, so supporting her ideas and methods is the most recommended.
Blackwall
Blackwall is a mature and serious warrior, member of the order of Gray Wardens. He’s a born leader and a great strategist, who gathered a band of peasants and protected their lands and families from the demons of the Veil while the Inquisition didn’t arrive.
Blackwall approves when you kill Darkspawns and allows Gray Wardens to join the Inquisition. He also approves of fair and honorable actions and when you show respect to the Wardens.
Being in a romance with him can help, or hinder, your decisions more when you discover this character's darkest secret and have to take him to trial.
Dorian
Dorian is a noble mage of Tevinter, a Magister, and is linked to the Venatori in a way that isn’t good. He fights against them because he doesn't believe in wizard superiority matters and doesn't approve of the Circle, but understands the need for it.
As a mage, Dorian approves whenever you show support for them and also approves when you kill Venatori mages. He also doesn't like blood magic or other taboo subjects. Speaking favorably about this kind of thing is not recommended.
He is homosexual and can only be romanced by male characters, but he flirts with women and likes more cheeky and fun responses, disapproving of aggressive responses or prejudiced and uninformed comments towards Tevinter mages.

Solas
An apostate elf wizard, that is, he never attended or was part of the Circle. Solas knows a lot about magic, elven culture and gaps in the sky, something that makes him a very suspicious person. He’s wise and helps you a lot in the fight against the Veil demons.
Solas can only be romanced by an elf woman. Approval with him is gained by making decisions that support wizards and elves. Showing interest and respect for elven traditions also helps.
Fighting Veil demons and closing the breaches will also get approval. In the end, a secret about him is revealed and having high approval or a romance can help you.
Josephine
The noble and refined Orlais ambassador joins the Inquisition and helps you with diplomatic negotiations, ensuring that the organization has a favorable image among the kingdoms' court. She’s educated, but not naive, and knows how to "play the game" of the most powerful.
The romance with Josephine seems like a cloak-and-dagger book, complete with a sword duel and a kiss with a foot in the air. To win her over, just complete her quests and flirt with her whenever the option arises. If you don't have a romance with her or Blackwall, it’s suggested that they have feelings for each other, but that they will never consummate them.
Cullen
Cullen is the captain and commander of the Templars who continue to be organized and helping the Inquisition. He always appeared as an NPC in previous games and has only now gained relevance. He helps you at the war table in missions that involve combat and conflict.
Romancing Cullen requires you to be a human or elf woman and help him on his personal quest involving lirium addiction. To obtain their anti-magic powers, every Templar has to consume Iirium and, over time, consumption becomes an addiction.
Helping him stop taking lirium means giving up his Templar powers, something that could shake the Inquisition's confidence in the Templar Order, but would help Cullen get rid of the addiction and cure his illness.
Dragon Age The Veilguard
Veilguard romance information was taken from EA’s Official Site and we’ll present who is available to you in this game, but we recommend finding out how each one works and how to conquer them in your run in the game.
Bellara
Rook meets Bellara Lutare at the beginning of the game and soon discovers her magical specialty. It’s possible to flirt with Bellara frequently, but a romance with her will take time to develop.
Davrin
Davrin is a confident and self-assured elf who will like Rook easily, with a little flirting. He likes it best when Rook is confident and shows determination to defeat the elven deities in the same way as him.
Emmrich
Emmrich Volkarin is a human necromancer with a more intellectual and mature romance. He will only create a connection if Rook is curious, open-minded, and kind. Specifically, Rook's interactions with Manfred, Emmrich's reanimated skeleton friend, will influence his bond with him.

Harding
Lace Harding is the first person on the team that Rook meets, and it’s easy to get her approval at the beginning of the game. Harding prefers a direct approach, both in combat and romance.
Lucaris
Lucanis Dellamorte is one of the hardest characters to romance in the game. He’s an assassin member of the Antivan Crows and specializes in killing blood mages and Venatoris. Each of your answers needs to be considered carefully.
Neve
Neve Gallus is another member of the party that Rook encounters right at the beginning of the game. Although your first choices influence her approval, having a romance with Neve is not easy. She’s slow to trust people and prefers it when Rook shows honesty and intelligence, and puts the team's needs above his own interests.
Taash
Taash is a young and courageous dragon-hunting qunari fighter. It's easy to flirt and romance her, considering her straightforward nature. She likes it when Rook has the same direct approach and leads honestly and quickly.
Wrapping Up
Now tell me: what were the best romances in the Dragon Age series? Who will you romance in the next game? Leave it in the comments.
