Analogue has announced the Mega Sg+ and Super Nt+, new versions of its consoles for classic Sega and Nintendo cartridges. The devices update the Mega Sg, released in 2019, and the Super Nt, released in 2018, with changes to their hardware and how games are played.According to Analogue, both consoles use an FPGA developed in-house rather than software emulation to run 2D games at 1080p. The company also claims the system delivers complete accuracy and no input lag.The Mega Sg+ is advertised as compatible with a library of more than 2,180 Sega Genesis, Mega Drive, Master System, Game Gear, Mycard Adapter and Mark III/SG1000 cartridges. The Super Nt+ supports more than 2,200 Super Nintendo and Super Famicom games. For collectors who have kept games for those platforms, the appeal remains playing their original cartridges on updated hardware. Both models have a redesigned look that Analogue describes as industrial, and support wireless controllers via Bluetooth or a 2.4 GHz connection. Players can also swap cartridges without turning off the console, though they must exit the game first. The consoles can be turned on and off using a controller. A USB-C power supply and the necessary cable are included in the box.Preorders for both consoles open on October 19 through Analogue’s website, with shipping expected in December. Each model costs US$219.99. The Mega Sg+ will come in Japan, EU and US versions; the Super Nt+ will be available in Classic, SF and Black.
