Team17 has announced The Escapists 3, the next installment in its 3D prison sandbox series. The game was revealed during the Triple-i Initiative Showcase and is scheduled to launch in 2027 for PC and consoles.

The Escapists 3 returns to the series’ core premise, challenging players to plan escapes while navigating the daily routines of prison life. The new game expands on that concept with more facilities to explore, new weapons to discover and craft, and different ways to organize a breakout.

The game emphasizes improvisation as part of the strategy. Each plan can involve different tools, weapons and routes, creating room for creative solutions to the obstacles found inside the prisons. The premise retains the series’ focus on the chaos of poorly calculated decisions and the consequences of attempting to escape while still having to meet everyday obligations, such as attending roll call.

Team17 summed up the spirit of the announcement with the line that “freedom has never been so poorly planned.” The description combines the series’ humor with the need to observe prison routines, gather resources and choose the right moment to put each plan into action.

The announcement also confirms that The Escapists 3 will retain the series’ sandbox structure, now with 3D environments, more prisons and new items to use during escape attempts. The game is scheduled for release in 2027, with versions planned for PC and consoles.
