Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 will be released on August 27, marking the first time Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will be playable on Xbox.

Konami's new collection also includes Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker in its HD Collection version, along with Metal Gear: Ghost Babel, the handheld game released in 2000. Those who buy the full package will also receive extras not included with individual game purchases.

Ahead of its release, the collection has a Metacritic average of 85. Reviews published so far have been based on the PS5 version, as Xbox review codes do not appear to have been widely distributed.

Metal Gear Solid 4 is the collection's main attraction. The game was confined to the PlayStation 3 for nearly two decades and returns with a locked frame rate, according to one review. Critics have also highlighted the enduring quality of Peace Walker and Ghost Babel, two games that showcase very different sides of Hideo Kojima's series.

Reaction to the package has not been unanimous, however. Concerns include the absence of Metal Gear Online, the use of Peace Walker's HD edition and what some consider a limited selection of extras. Other reviews note that the collection focuses on preserving the games and making them more accessible rather than delivering major modernizations.

On the Xbox Store, Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 is available for pre-order for £44.98 or US$49.99. Konami will allow the games to be purchased separately, but has not yet announced individual prices.
