Dune: Awakening will get the free Blood and Ice expansion in December. It introduces the Polar Sink, a new survival map that swaps the desert’s extreme heat for freezing temperatures.Players will need to find ways to stay warm, upgrade their gear, gather resources and adapt their strategies. According to the description on Steam, the technology developed to survive in the desert won’t be enough to withstand the cold. The Polar Sink features two biomes: tundra and ice cap. The journey begins in the tundra, where conditions are more bearable, but local families won’t tolerate interference in their operations. Players can then venture onto the ice cap to collect valuable resources. The ice can also be used to cool equipment at the base and speed up production. The expansion is expected to add around 35 hours of progression, along with new vehicle modules, upgrades and specialization traits. Funcom also plans future updates to give players more reasons to return to the Polar Sink. Blood and Ice will also include a cosmetics store with optional items such as outfits, vehicle variants and additional base customization options.Another major change is coming in November: Dune: Awakening will get an offline mode, allowing players to play without an internet connection. The feature could keep the game accessible even if the servers go offline. The ability to copy characters from multiplayer servers into single-player mode is planned for January. Funcom also plans to add full cross-play support that month. The Blood and Ice expansion, meanwhile, is scheduled to launch in December, though no specific date has been announced.Information from Rock Paper Shotgun.
