The latest Steam client beta update has added the Big Art view to the Big Picture Mode and Gaming Mode home screens on SteamOS devices, including the Steam Deck and Steam Machine.The mode removes store news and recommendations from the main page, repositioning the game carousel to give each title’s artwork more room. The aim is to put users’ libraries front and center, with cleaner navigation for those using Steam on larger displays or in a console-style setup.The beta also includes a built-in screensaver. By default, it cycles through artwork from games in the user’s library, but personal screenshots can also be added to the rotation. There is also a second option: a retro-style Steam logo bouncing around the screen.Users looking for further customization can add their own screensavers through the file directories listed in Valve’s update notes.Practical changes have also arrived for SteamOS. In the Compatibility tab of a game’s properties, Steam now immediately displays which Proton version is being used to run it. Previously, users had to open the option to force a specific compatibility tool to access that information.The update also allows SteamOS to boot directly into Desktop Mode by default. The option may be useful for anyone using a Steam Machine as a desktop computer with a mouse and keyboard, while also saving steps on the Steam Deck when programs outside its native environment are needed.The beta is open to everyone. In the desktop app, the option can be found under Settings > Interface > Client Beta Participation. On SteamOS, go to Settings > System > Beta Participation.
