On the 10th, Overwatch 2 received its 14th Season: Hazard. It arrived with a new hero, the return of 6v6, a new Battle Pass, as well as more cosmetics and changes to the game's quality of life. With a Christmas thematic and the huge collaboration with Avatar: The Last Airbender, the update promises to be attractive to fans.

Hazard - New Overwatch 2 Tank Hero

The newest playable hero in Overwatch 2 was named after the season itself, Hazard is the first Scottish to make up the game's cast of characters! This tank has been available before, more specifically in the last week of November, for us to test in casual modes, and the reception from the community was the best possible, especially because it has a unique and extremely fun gameplay with high damage and movement capacity.

Season 14 Mythical Skin

Each season brings its own unique mythic skin, which is often the most coveted cosmetic throughout the update. This holiday season, Blizzard brought Mythical Thor Reinhardt, a skin based on Norse mythology which can be unlocked for 50 Mythical Prisms.

This is the level 1 version, note that the look can be improved up to level 4 and each evolution costs 10 Mythical Prisms. Therefore, to actually obtain all the skin's resources, we’ll expend a total of 80 Prisms.

The positive side of this mechanic is being able to customize the look. For example, I can leave it without effects, as it is at level one, but use the helmet and armor from the third level of the skin while choosing the color from level two.

Reinhardt is possibly the hero that best matches this theme. The skin's improvements make it sensational, for me, it's better than last season's.

Return of 6v6 with Role Queue in Overwatch 2

Finally, players will have more opportunities to test 6v6 in Overwatch 2. The last time was at the event Overwatch 2 Classiclink outside website, but on that occasion the focus was to take advantage of the original abilities and heroes, just as it was at the launch in 2016, without limits and with more disorganized compositions, just for the community to have fun.

But now, the idea is to really bring 6v6 compositions back, with two tanks, two DPS and two team supports, with a role queue as well organized as competitive mode, for example. Unfortunately, this return is not yet definitive, being a limited time event between December 17th and January 6th.

Winter Wonderland 2024: Christmas Event with free skin

It's a simple event, Winter Wonderland brings back four game modes between December 10th and January 6th.

Unfortunately, these are already known modes and nothing innovative for the community, it’s something common that has been happening recently on commemorative dates such as Halloween and Christmas. But, on the other hand, it's an opportunity to satisfy the nostalgia or for newcomers to get to know these games.

Challenges

Whenever a mode dedicated to a seasonal event is released, Blizzard provides challenges to be completed, which reward us with cosmetics or experience for the Battle Pass.

In recent events, the cosmetics offered were nothing more than icons, titles or name cards, even being the target of constructive criticism in our analyses and opinions here. But this time, I'm excited to announce that one of the prizes is the Winter Casual Hanzo skin, just do the mission of completing eight games, and you'll receive it for free. Finally, a reward that will motivate most players.

The challenges remain simple and repetitive, just completing games in specific modes. But the arrival of Hanzo's costume made a total difference to the Christmas event!

Overwatch 2 x Avatar: The Last Airbender Collaboration

We still don't have much information about this collab, just a post on the official X page, formerly Twitter, for Overwatch 2. In it, the game promises a collaboration with the series which will arrive next week, on December 17th!

Season 14 Battle Pass

The Battle Pass is a way to acquire exclusive cosmetics, the Premium version costs 1000 Overwatch Coins. But don't worry, the trail also offers good free rewards, like the Jötunn skins for Junker Queen and Polar for Cassidy!

Patch Notes

New Hero Mastery

Blizzard announced that a new hero will receive its mastery mode for players to improve themselves. It’s Ashe, and this addition will come on January 14th.

Balancing

Tanks

We’ve had numerous adjustments to the characters in this class. The simplest were:

  • Doomfist: A heavy nerf to Seismic Slam, which will now have a shorter range and longer reload time.

  • Maga: A decrease of 50 in armor, but an increase in the same value for your HP.

  • Orisa: Lost 25 HP to receive the same amount in armor. Terra Surge's radius has also been increased by 2 meters.

  • Ramattra = Ravenous Vortex Now briefly interrupts horizontal momentum when affecting a target for the first time. The slowdown field now ignores line of sight barriers.

  • Winston: Jump Pack damage increased from 50 to 60.

The most considerable change to a tank was the newcomer Hazard, the developers used the feedback received during the testing periods to adjust all of his abilities. Basically, the Scottish had a slight buff, check out all the changes below:

  • Bonespur: Thorn damage increased from 6.75 to 7.5. The center projectile of each burst no longer has a random launch spread and is now always launched in a straight line.

  • Spike Guard: Angle of protection provided increased from 104 to 180 degrees. Damage per second reduced from 75 to 70.

  • Violent Leap: Post-attack recovery time for Primary Fire and Quick Melee increased from 0.3 to 0.5 sec.

  • Jagged Wall: Health increased from 350 to 400. Knockback damage increased from 40 to 50. Damage interval increased from 1.5 per target to 1.75 seconds per target.

  • Downpour: Loss of air momentum when casting Downpour reduced from 90% to 50%.

  • Vault: Minimum height of the obstacle to trigger Vault reduced from 1.75 to 1.25 meters.

    Damage (DPS)

  • Ashe: Coach Gun can now be fired when Ashe is affected by mobility blocking abilities, but will not move her.

  • Pharah: Cooldown increased from 8 to 9 seconds for Jet Dash.

  • Sojourn: Railgun has received second fire damage scaling increased from 1-100 to 20-120.

  • Soldier 76: Cooldown reduced from 18 to 15 seconds on Biotic Field.

  • Symmetra: Teleporter health increased from 200 to 250.

  • Torbjörn: Forge Hammer now has increased damage from 55 to 70. Deploy Turret has received a decrease in construction time from 3 to 2.5 seconds, in addition to the standard health increased from 225 to 250.

  • Venture: Drill Dash's cooldown rate is now faster whenever Burrow is active, instead of requiring the player to be underground.

    Supports

  • Baptiste: His Regenerating Burst received two buffs: cooldown reduced from 15 to 14 seconds and the radius increased from 10 to 12 meters.

  • Brigitte: Inspire duration has been reduced from 5 to 4 seconds.

  • Illari: Captive Sun's blast radius increased from 8 to 10 meters.

  • Lúcio: Crossfade self-healing penalty has been reduced from 60% to 40%. Your Ultimate Sound Barrier now drops faster when used in the air.

    Conclusion

I confess that Season 14 of Overwatch 2 surprised me, I'm happy to see the return of free skins in limited-time challenges. The new hero is the best release in many months, as well as another important collaboration to introduce new cosmetics into the game! Hazard, and I mean both the hero and the season, was a huge success from Blizzard, I hope to see more updates of this size and quality.

I am available in the comments to answer any questions or suggestions.
