Gears of War: E-Day will launch without some of the series’ best-known features. The ability to take enemies hostage and use them as human shields, as well as chainsaw duels with Lancer rifles, will not be available at launch. The Coalition explained that the prequel was built from the ground up without reusing the foundation of previous games. According to the developer, the decision was made to create a more unified experience across the campaign, PvE and PvP.“We started E-Day with an empty hard drive, building our entire gameplay environment from the ground up to ensure a more unified experience across Campaign, PvE and PvP,” The Coalition said. The company added that this environment enabled changes to the cover, combat and enemy systems, but prevented all of the classic features from being included at launch. The developer is working to make these elements available after launch or in its next game. Private lobbies and leaderboards are also among the features planned for that period. The first season will begin with the launch of Early Access and run for eight weeks, through December 1. The content will include the maps, modes and cosmetic items available at launch, as well as the seasonal events Halloween, 20 Years of Gears and Thanksgibbing. Ranked competitive modes will be added on October 13.The Coalition also detailed a change to the Gnasher. In previous games, hip-firing followed the direction the character was facing. In E-Day, the system combines the camera’s aim with the position of the barrel, giving players more control during these last-second shots.
