Final Fantasy XIV: How to Farm MGP in the Gold Saucer

Unlocking the Gold Saucer

To access the casino, you need to complete the It Could Happen to You quest, located right at the exit of the Ul'dah teleporter. It's a simple quest in which an NPC will give you a ticker, you present it at the nearest dock and a flying boat will take you to the Gold Saucer.

To avoid mistakes, it's more or less here

Keep in mind that to access this quest, you must have at least reached level 16 quests in the main campaign! If you've already been to the Gold Saucer and haven't activated the teleport there, to return just take a flying boat from Ul'dah back to the Gold Saucer.

Preparations

Challenge Log

Challenge logs are weekly objectives which you can complete to earn extra XP, and they encompass many activities throughout the game, including crafting, gathering, and mini-games. To unlock this feature, simply complete the Rising to the Challenge

quest.

Buffs

If you’re not a free trial, look for a Free Company, the FF XIV guilds, that uses the “Jackpot” effect. This gives all members an increase in MGP earnings, which is the currency earned and used in the Gold Saucer

But don't worry, even if you’re a Free trial, there's still a way, but it requires a little more preparation. There's an Adventurer Squads system that you can manage and send on quests. At higher levels, they can bring you items that can copy the effect of the Free Company buffs. I'll leave the wiki page link here if you want to know more!

Activities

GATEs

Yes, it’s a pun on the Fates that you've probably seen around, and guess what? They work in a very similar way. Every 20 minutes, one of these will happen somewhere in the Gold Saucer, and they work like scavenger hunts, for example: there's a gate where you'll have to go through an obstacle course, then there's another where the game turns into an FPS and then another that will be a real test of your reflexes. Let's talk more about them:

The Slice is Right

In this gate, you'll have to dodge a series of attacks while trying to pick up money off the ground. You only need to get hit once, and you'll be disqualified.

The attacks come in the form of objects being chopped up, and you have to get out of the way of the debris, but I have some tips that can help you:

Firstly, take a good look at how the bamboo was cut. If it’s split in half, the area hit will be a straight line in the direction of the cut. Visualize that something was cut exactly in half and the two pieces fell to one side.

Second, if it was a single clean cut on a diagonal, the bamboo will fall in the direction the cut was pointing at.

And finally, if the bamboo was completely chopped up, it’ll simply fall to the ground, creating a circle-shaped damage area, so stay away from that one.

Air Force One

There's not much of a secret to this one. Here, you'll board a plane, the camera will go to first person and some targets will appear. Then, kill them dead.

Leap of Fate

This one might be a test to your patience. In this Gate, you'll have to finish a course and, optionally, collect trophies along the way. Each trophy you collect increases the MGP you earn at the end.

If you realize that you won't be able to collect all the trophies, focus on finishing the course so you don't get a penalty on the final prize.

And use "Sprint" wisely.

Any Way the Wind Blows

This one’s Russian roulette, period. Players are placed in an arena and are warned that, at some point, they’ll have to stand still. Soon after, a Typhon will appear and attack the area. Whoever’s hit is out of the GATE.

There’s no indication of where it’ll appear, so it’s all a matter of luck.

Cliffhanger

Next to Air Force One, this is one of the easiest to complete. In it, you'll have to climb a path while dodging bombs. They take about 5 seconds to explode, so you have time to wait or simply run past them.

At the top of the path, interact with the little chocobo terrified by the explosions and get your reward.

Mini Cactpot

It's a scratch card! Yes, you buy one of these for a nominal amount, scratch it and win some change. It works like this: There are nine numbers on it, with one of them already revealed. Then, you'll have to scratch three of them and select a line. The sum of the numbers on that line will determine how much you'll win. Don't get it? Look at the image and it'll be easy:

For this mini-game, there’s a trick that can improve the winnings, check it out: note that the best prizes are for adding 6 and 24. However, the only way to get 6 is by adding 1, 2 and 3, and 24 is by adding 7, 8 and 9.

With this in mind, one strategy used is to try to form a Y. Reveal two from the middle column and one at each end. This will give you an idea of how each line is and, if possible, form one of the two patterns I mentioned before!

Each player can buy them and play 3 times per day, following the daily reset at 8AM, Pacific Standard time.

Jumbo Cactpot

If there's a scratch card, there's also a lottery. It works a little differently, though. Each week, you can choose up to 3 numbers and try your luck. For each correct number, the winnings increase exponentially, with the maximum prize getting over 1 million MPG

After purchasing, just wait until Saturday at 11 pm when the numbers are drawn. You have until the next draw to redeem your reward at an NPC at the counter just to the side. Otherwise it’ll be lost.

I almost forgot, you get 10% more if you go to collect your prize right after the draw.

Fashion Report

If you want to farm MGP, Fashion Report is something you can't miss. How does it work? Every week, the NPC will provide a kind of riddle regarding some clothing items, and this changes each time. You can see the riddles in the menu Duty > Timers > Fashion Report. If you haven't unlocked it yet, just go here:

The idea is to wear items of clothing that fit the riddle and present yourself for judging. Getting exactly two right is enough to get the score that gives you the highest prize in MGP. Getting all four right gives you the title of “Fashion Leader”, if you’re interested.

A few tips before you venture into the judging: all armor and accessory slots must have some item equipped, as not having any one of them will decrease your score.

In addition, I recommend that you always research the Fashion Report spoilers for that specific week, to get an idea on how to put your look together. And I'll tell you right away, most of the time you'll look like a clown, but a clown with 60 thousand MGP in your pocket, so I'll forgive the guy.

Let's go, first, take a look at which pieces can be used in each place and see which ones you have access to. If you have access to both, great. If not, try to get at least 1 and complete it with the paints from the last frame on the right.

Finally, it's worth noting that the frame there is just an example and that it was only valid for the week in which it was published.

Chocobo Races

Imagine a Mario Kart game, but make it chocobos. That's what we have here in Gold Saucer's Chocobo Square. Unlike the other mini-games, this one allows you to go into much more depth, as it has a whole mechanic for developing your chocobo and the such, but that's not the purpose of this article. We're here to get rich!

The important thing about unlocking this activity is to have access to its Challenge Log. Speaking of unlocking, to get to this part of the Gold Saucer, just go here:

In this pavilion, just go north, and you’ll reach the NPC with the Unlocking quest.

Triple Triad

If you've played FFVIII before, you'll already have an idea of how this works. In short, it's good old-fashioned card play using characters from FF XIV and beyond. To get started, go to this NPC:

Okay, let's get to the basic rules now: per turn, each player can put 1 card on the field. The cards have numbers ranging from 1 to A, with A being the equivalent of 10. When 2 cards are adjacent to each other, the owner of the card on the side with the higher number will take control of the card with the lower number. The goal of the game is to control as many cards as possible, so whoever has the most cards at the end, wins.

In the event of a tie during the calculation of who has the higher side, nothing happens.

I’ve noticed that each NPC brings with them a new set of rules, so it's a good idea to prepare more decks for each type of situation. To build a new deck or edit yours, go to the menu Character > Gold Saucer > Card Decks.

Honorable Mentions

Lord of Vermlillion

This minigame is for you to finally put your minions to good use. In it, you command them in combat against machines or even other players, but it’s not currently played very much. If you want to try it out, it’s in the same pavilion as the chocobo races.

Mahjong

I'll be honest: I have no idea how to play Mahjong in real life, so I wouldn't know whether the rules are comparable or not. If that's your thing, though, you can play near where Jumbo Cactpot is.

Farming MGP

Now that I've explained the activities, bonuses and all the good stuff, let's get to the point: to get the most MGP, the best thing to do is follow the Gold Saucer Challenge Log and remember that it resets on Tuesdays at 6 am.

My recommendation is to take advantage of the MGP buffs, be it from the Free Company or the Squadron I mentioned, and do these activities. A quick one is the chocobo race, just do 3, and it’ll be 5000 MGP, and if you win at least one, another 5000 MGP in your account. You can enter these races from the Duty Finder or at the pavilion where you unlocked the activity.

I've been genuinely interested in the Fashion Report. Doing it with a gain buff can give you up to 69,000 MGP!

Always do the GATEs. They can reward you between 4,000 and 12,000 MGP.

Do the Mini Cactpot daily.

Play some mini-games just to complete the Challenge Log.

After finishing the Challenge Log, I can only recommend that you do the GATEs. But be prepared: the farm is long for some of the more expensive prizes.
