Fable was originally scheduled to launch in October 2026, before being delayed to February 2027. The news was revealed by game director Ralph Fulton in an interview conducted during Gamescom.

Until the delay was announced, developer Playground Games had not revealed an official release date. October was the window the team had been targeting internally, but it ultimately moved the game to avoid launching too close to Grand Theft Auto 6.

Fulton said he was pleased with the change, even though he had hoped to release Fable that year.

“I was really looking forward to launching this game this year. I didn’t want to have to give the team another January 1 speech saying, ‘this is the year we’re launching Fable,’ which I’ll now have to do. But the reasoning is absolutely valid. I’m happy we’re avoiding that chaotic window.”

The director also noted that early 2027 already has a busy release schedule, with games such as Stranger Than Heaven, Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis and Persona 4 Revival expected during that period. Even so, the Fable team is willing to compete for attention alongside those releases.

According to Fulton, the goal was specifically to avoid the impact of GTA 6. The delay moves Fable out of Rockstar’s game’s initial release window, which is expected to dominate public and media attention when it launches.

The new release window also gives Playground Games additional months to polish Fable. The RPG is now scheduled for February 2027, but no specific release date was provided. The launch platform was also not detailed in the cited interview.
