Activision has released a new campaign trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, and the biggest surprise comes in the final seconds: Mads Mikkelsen will appear in the game as a still-unnamed antagonist.

In the video, the actor briefly appears in a conversation with series veteran John Price. The appearance is short, but it already makes the character’s role in the story clear. In one line, he threatens to make Price “cry for mercy” while describing the losses and horrors the captain has yet to face. Price gives a blunt reply, saying he has already seen plenty.

The trailer also reinforces the campaign’s narrative focus, an area fans have been watching more closely after the negative reception to Modern Warfare 3, released in 2023. At the time, the campaign was criticized for feeling rushed and shallow, and the new game is trying to show signs of a turnaround on that front.

One point raised before this trailer is that the recent open beta included a campaign mission. The impression was generally positive, even if the experience felt familiar by franchise standards. If the rest of the campaign maintains that level, Modern Warfare 4 could win back some interest from players who follow Call of Duty for its story mode as well as its multiplayer.

Mads Mikkelsen’s presence puts a familiar face at the center of the conflict and gives the trailer a strong hook without revealing too much about the villain’s role. For now, Activision has not revealed the name of the character played by the actor.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled for release on October 26, 2026, during what has been described as one of the busiest months of the year for games.
