The new title, LumenTale: Memories of Trey, released on May 26, 2026, for Switch and PC, brings a strategic approach for monster-catching enthusiasts.

Featuring interesting mechanics like a shared energy bar for your Animon and hidden types, the game requires you to think far beyond the basic "attack and heal" loop. To ensure you don't struggle in the early areas while saving both time and resources, we have compiled some essential starting tips.

Master Elements and Traits

Image content of the Website

The Traits system is one of the game's biggest mechanical standouts. It unlocks right after you finish the Area 1 main quest and defeat the boss Dena.

At the cost of 1 extra SP when unleashing an attack, you can activate your Animon's Trait to secure bonuses.

Furthermore, if you have a TP action available, the SP cost to activate your Trait becomes zero. Use this whenever you can! You can activate multiple Traits in the same turn, provided there is enough SP in the collective bar.

Traits Manual and What each one does

- Felicis (Support/Healing): Without a doubt, the best Trait for the story mode. It heals your entire team by 10% of their maximum HP.

Pro Tip: The game states you need to attack to activate it, but actually, any skill works. If you only have one action left at the end of a turn, use "Skip" with this Trait active to guarantee an extra heal before ending the turn.

- Furor (Raw Damage): Increases the base power of moves, granting a 30% damage bonus. This is the ideal choice for dealing with bosses.

- Horrens (Ignore Resistances): Allows your Animon to deal neutral damage even if the enemy is resistant to the move's type. As a bonus, every time you defeat an enemy with this active, you generate 1 TP.

- Sereum (Crits): Increases the critical hit rate by about 50%. Since critical hits generate TP quickly, Sereum can be combined with area-of-effect (AoE) attacks to farm TP points.

- Mestus: Theoretically, this Trait should consume your Animon's health in exchange for massive damage. However, testing shows that the damage bonus is almost nonexistent due to a bug. Avoid using this Trait until the developers release a fix.

Use the Synchronicity Mechanic

Later on, upon completing the other starting area you left behind (North or South), you will face the same NPC from Area 1 in a rematch. This will unlock Synchronicity, a mechanic that can be used once per battle to grant a 30% bonus to all stats of the Animon and boost its Traits. The best choices for this are:

- Felicis boosts healing to 20% of the team's HP instead of 10%.

- Furor jumps from a 30% to a 50% damage bonus.

Build a Balanced Team

Image content of the Website

Building a balanced team in LumenTale works differently than in other games of the genre. The biggest mistake beginners make is putting 4 attackers in the party.

Remember: the entire team shares the same energy bar (SP). If you use four heavy-hitting monsters, your bar will empty on the first turn, leaving your slow creatures stranded with nothing to do.

I recommend keeping one Animon focused on support, capable of generating more SP and/or healing your other Animon. This will keep your attackers up and running.

You should also diversify the attack costs of your Animon, especially the slower ones. Since the SP bar is shared, it is important to always have cheaper attack options available.

Diversify Elements

Keep a diverse team with different elements to use the Holoken in the field. Sticking with duplicate elements will force you to open the menu to swap creatures every time you encounter an obstacle on the map. Since using the Holoken of a specific element requires having an Animon with that primary element, it is best to combine utility with convenience.

Additionally, the game heavily rewards critical damage, so having a wider variety of elements makes it easier to hit opponents' weaknesses and earn points for an extra action.

Keep the AniWiki Updated with Scans

Many players ignore the scanning mechanic, but it is vital. The proper approach is to scan new creatures at least three times to reach the maximum research level in the AniWiki.

An AniWiki at level 3 reveals hidden information such as weaknesses, base stats, abilities, evolution conditions, and the full list of moves by level or external methods for each Animon.

Furthermore, scanning bosses reveals their weaknesses. Hitting weaknesses generates TP points, and accumulating 4 TP grants you a bonus action in the fight.

Optimizing Animon Stats and Skills

Your Animon's progression requires constant manual attention. Do not expect the game to handle everything automatically.

- Manual Stat Distribution: When your creatures level up or are captured, they accumulate attribute points that must be distributed manually.

Focus points on the correct type of attack for that monster (Physical or Special).

The best part of this mechanic is that you can reset and change this distribution for free in the open world at any time if needed.

- Upgrading Moves: Newly learned attacks are not equipped automatically. Additionally, you need to upgrade techniques using materials (leveling up a move can change its base power from 60 to 90, for example). If you forget to level up your moves, your damage will fall heavily behind as the game progresses.

- Individual Values (IVs) range from 1 to 10, but do not despair if you capture a monster with low stats; they can be improved later on with training items in the AniSpace and/or food.

Make Money by Selling Gems

Money is essential early in the game to buy stat-boosting meals and crafting materials.

In the early caves (available on both the North and South paths), break every crystal and rock you see. You will accumulate plenty of Quartz and rare gems (rubies, topazes, etc.). Sell the gems at shops for high prices to line your pockets quickly, but save a few for specific evolutions.

Capture Secrets and Hidden Types

While exploring the map, you will notice certain visual and mechanical patterns during captures.

Seeing double rings when focusing on a wild Animon means you have already captured that species. However, keep paying attention: there is a 10% chance for any creature to spawn with a Hidden Type.

The Hidden Type grants a 50%* extra damage bonus (STAB) for attacks of that element.

Creatures like Mollupom* strictly require this hidden type in order to evolve.

Solving It with the Prismatype

If you do not want to rely on that 10% luck, you can craft the Prismatype item to add the hidden element instantly.

Recipe: 10 Plastics, 2 Anivite EX, and 30 Quartz.

A quick tip: switch your character to Nada before crafting to increase the success rate. Gathering 30 quartz takes a while, so save your game before attempting to craft just to be safe.

Appendix Q and Quirks

To avoid having to capture dozens of identical monsters until one comes with the right passive ability (Quirk), you can craft the Appendix Q item to change it manually.

- Appendix Q Recipe: 1 Diamond, 10 Glass, and 2 Anivite EX.

A quick tip: Switch your character to Ales to get the best success rate.

Capture Patterns with the Holoken

The quick-time event minigame to capture creatures directly on the map is not random; each species has a fixed sequence of commands. Using better spheres like the Billia Plus reduces the number of button inputs. Even so, the most recommended method is initiating battles to capture, where the chances of failure are much lower.

Use Recycling Correctly to Earn XP

Tossing leftover materials into trash cans scattered around cities grants experience points (XP) to your entire team, which is often faster than farming in battles. However, the trash cans are color-coded, and you receive significantly more XP if you place the material in the corresponding bin, so always check if the item is in the correct trash can. If it is not, it will only generate 10 XP.

- Green Bin: Glass.

- Blue Bin: Plastic.

- Red Bin: Organic.

- Yellow Bin: Metals.

Note: Trash cans have a maximum XP level cap based on the region they are located in to prevent you from becoming overpowered right at the start.

Keep an Eye Out for Special Evolutions

As you increase each species' research level in the AniWiki (3 times), the Animon's page reveals its evolution method.

However, the game tends to be a bit vague, categorizing evolutions into three groups: "Level" (standard leveling), "Level+" (leveling with extra requirements), or "Special". If you get stuck, a good tip is to check the notice board inside Lumen Clubs, which often provides valuable clues.

To save you time, we have compiled the criteria for the main special evolutions and how they work:

Hidden Type and Stat Requirements

- Mollupom: Simply leveling up is not enough. It strictly needs to have the Water hidden type active, and then reach level 26.

Time of Day or Night

- Deniuli, Almyuuna, Boobat, and Quidvil: All of these require you to reach a specific level range (usually between 28 and 30) and for the evolution process to occur strictly during a specific period, either during the day or at night.

Repetitive Mechanic Usage

- Rainxy and Puffella: These creatures require dedication in combat. They only evolve after you activate their Traits multiple times in the middle of battles.

Weather and Environmental Factors

For other Animon, the challenge is geographical: you will need to level them up and then take them to a specific map location or wait for a specific weather condition* (such as rain or a thunderstorm) to be active in the area.

Evolution Items

Many Animon require you to hold a specific item in your inventory when they level up. The good news is that all of these items can be crafted at your workbench:

Image content of the Website

- Lampecko into Luxecko: Requires the Lampalite item in your inventory.

Recipe: 1 Anivite EX, 1 Topaz, and 30 Glass.

- Owaxle into Nefandle: Requires the Candleshroom item in your inventory.

Recipe: 1 Anivite EX, 1 Emerald, and 30 Mushrooms.

- Trinkoral into Encantyss: Requires the Crimson Horn item in your inventory.

Recipe: 1 Anivite EX, 1 Ruby, and 30 Crustaceans.

- Griblin into Despablin: Requires the Lustrostar item in your inventory.

Recipe: 1 Anivite EX, 1 Sapphire, and 30 Sugar.

Healing Tricks

If an Animon is knocked out and you do not want to spend money on revive items (or do not have a healing source nearby), open the menu, send the creature into your AniSpace (storage), close the menu, and pull it back into the team. It will instantly return with 50% HP at absolutely no cost!

Another thing: to heal at water sources on the map, you do not need to open the camping menu and waste time pitching a tent. Simply stand still near the source for 1 second to fully restore your whole team's health.
